what? Deltron makes all his music Live.

Live is a loop based program. MPC's are loop based machines.

What is it about a "Rap beat" that can't be done on ableton?
  He was just kidding.

i started to make a beat like this on ableton, hiphop can be very easy to make as it's just very often the same melody repeated for about 4 mins with a few extra sounds added in to signal the chorus.

coming from the mpc 1000 to live 5......i was able to double my workflow in the same amount of time.

Just chop your samples up in an audio editor.........

drop the samples in simpler, sampler, drum rack, and impulse.

then go nuts.

dude must be looking for groove features.

there are none. traditionaly speaking but.....

fuck with the warp markers, there is good shit to be had and by the time Live 27 comes out you will be able to sync live to your mpc with out a problem.

Hip Hop can be made on a sampler with 1 SECOND of sample time!
That's how it was back in the day.
It's not what you have, it's the way you use it and live is just another tool. if you think it can't be done in live then you're in the wrong game.

Live 7 and Pad Kontrol has recently replaced my SP-1200 drum machine (12 bit, 10 second sample time) and Roland 16 track.. I use primarily for Hip Hop/Beat oriented music.

I haven't even scratched the surface of Live 7 and already I have way more freedom/options than my 2 old standbys. Slice to midi is my friend.

Live is perfect for Hip Hop..

feature wise Live is just the tastiest piece of chompware in existence but are you not missing the sound you got out of the sp?

Well I been using it since 1990..

It's very limiting..for example trying to add an 808 or a crash or ride takes up a lot of sample time, so sometimes I'd have to use 2 disks. Being limited like that for so long and then using Live was actually overwhelming at first..

I imagine once I get totally comfortable with Live I will go back to firing up the old drum machine and integrating that crunchy sound into what Im doing now.
