Not a DJ.
Simply I like to compose music. My favorite artist is Peter Gabriel...
but the music I make is miles away... BTW I can't name genres but I think
I'm writing a mix of R&B, Pop, Hip Hop,Soul, Ballads... well that's what I think...em..really! The only thing I can say is that my BPM goes rarely above 120 and stays around 80-100 most of the time...
Live was enlightenment when I first used it. I didn't know I could have been
able to compose that music. Thanks Live.

I've DJ'd for about a 1/3 of my lifeAngstrom wrote:I'm not a DJ, never have been.
I have never owned a set of decks, I do not own any 12" vinyl with thumpin beats on, I have not got a 909, 808 or a 303, nor a desire to get one.
I've owned two sets of decks
I still have hundreds of 12" vinyls with some seriously thumping beats on them
I have had a 909 and 303
no 808

Not a DJ.
Wouldn't mind some of the top DJ's dosh though, if you like that sort of thing it must be a great living, although most DJs are doing poxy dives in the condemned zone of town for peanuts for a bunch of slack jawed fools who know nothing about music and request the latest pop-hop hop crossover act of the day. you know you're in a pumping electronica club and the crowd are asking for Rihanna or the frigging Pussycat Dolls and no one is dancing to the cool stuff....
Calling people 'producer' is also something which rankles me. Most people using Live are DJs, songwriters or composers and while we use Live to produce our music, most people calling themselves 'producers' these days are ghetto kids in their bedroom with a cracked copy of Fruity Loops and who are trying like mad to sell 'Yo Dope Beetz' on Soundclick etc., usually made from a sample CD or an Ejay disc they found. Mostly with no talent or musical ability who put up their 'mixtapes' on Myspace, which are usually clipping all over and sounding like crap.

Not a DJ.
Just using Live to compose mainly electronic music/noise whatever.
Started out in bands back in the 80's through into the 90's.
Fell into the dance thing, mainly by meeting few people into the trance thing, bush doofs etc.
Started with Rebirth, then Reason, and onto Ableton.
Mainly started off with Vst's and plug-ins etc, but now collecting anolog synths atm to make more noise with.
It's fun.

mostly a produce/make-er / live performer here...
i do play tunes at gigs where i mix sometimes but i'm not a DJ in a club sense.
i make many different types of music from brutal noise to minimal techno ; pretty much all are performed on Ableton.
i dont do any other job apart from music and to be honest with a family , i struggle to survive. i have played live music for more than 20 years in every kind of band you can think of and many solo projects.
at times i have busked to get money for gear , rent or travel.
i have to say although i am interested in nearly all forms of music , i would be very happy indeed to have a regular club DJ gig as the money is generally really good.
