wait, no firewire 400 on the new macbook pros? Only Firewire 800? Is that new with this model or did the last model drop the 400 as well?
Is it as simple as using a converter cable with one end 400 and one end 800 for audio devices? Never used the 800 slot before on the macbook pro.

I wonder if Apogee Duets will still be sold in Apple stores now that it can't be used with the current macbook!
LMFAO! No firewire????
The killer is that they didn't add an extra usb 2.0 port. 99% of real audio gear requires native ports.
Color me un(der)impressed. Also, there is no $1,099 model...
Wake me up when they release an all touch screen macbook.
I guess if I had to buy a new notebook I would have to spend $2,000 on the Macbook Pro. Couldn't justify buying a macbook and not having a native firewire port and only two native ports... not when they offered it in the earlier, cheaper version.

I will not sell my Black Macbook. Neither I'll buy a new one. Stupid Apple you just throw 1 customer to the wind!

Yeah, absolutely worthless for a klutz like me. I already killed one iPhone, strategically dropping it just right to break the glass.
Apple are bragging about the glass going right to the edge on these displays, and it's a design flaw, done for aesthetic reasons. The practical implications of this are horrifying, one drop on an edge and you're out $1200+ for a new screen, accidental drops are not covered under Apple Care. Think about it, you spend $999 or x2 on a laptop and one drop doesn't ruin it's good looks with a dent etc. but kills the thing?? If you do get one of these the only sane option is to purchase at Best Buy, and get their accidental damage insurance.
OK maybe I'm missing something, hopefully they aren't using actual glass?
[edit..again] Yeah, actual glass, and they're bragging about it being more durable, which is bullshit, I know first hand it's not going to be.

WTF?
NO Firewire 400!?
NO firewire AT ALL on Macbooks!?
MORE MONEY!?
Yeah apple you really screwed the pooch on this one!
I mean what the hell were they thinking? Did someone forget to tell them that thousands of people use their macbooks with FW400 devices?
I wonder if enough angry audiophiles write in demanding the return of FW to the macbooks they might actually add it?

The aesthetics are equally flawed in my opinion. Ugh.Machinesworking wrote:Apple are bragging about the glass going right to the edge on these displays, and it's a design flaw, done for aesthetic reasons.

Plus with the glass & the black on the frame around the glossy display you have an even LARGER reflective surface to see everything behind you reflected in! The exact opposite of the experience I want when using a computer.
