I wonder how far up in Amazon rankings that book went after last night...

Just checked, and it's #65!

What was it prior to the episode? Gotta be low, heh.

Man, what are you guys watching now that Lost is gone for nearly a year? Here's a rundown of what I'm getting into; mostly cable stuff and/or shows I missed the first time around but am watching on DVD:

The Tudors
Fuck this is a great series.

Mad Men
I can not get enough of the 1950s / 1960s aesthetic. Back when Men were Men and they banged their secretaries at will. *sigh* Ahh, those were the days. (kidding). (sort of). :P

Doctor Who
Catching up on the 3rd season and beyond. Amazing show.

House
Season's almost over. Love it.

In Treatment
A captivating show on HBO that has Gabriel Byrne as a psychoanalyst. Network TV would never have the balls for this kind of thing.

Show I'm thinking about giving another chance:
Fringe. There was godawful writing here, but I keep reading how the season got better and better. Hmm.

Show that needs to come back. NOW.
Curb Your Enthusiasm. Nuff said.

Show that I need to catch up on:
True Blood. Vampires. meh. Had enough of 'em so I stayed away, but people tell me it's great.
I came for the :lol:
But stayed for the :x

When is Trueblood back? And isn't Dexter on this summer?

I'm watching Southland, which is pretty good...a mild version of The Shield, but since we have no Shield...

Looking forward to Madmen this summer, big time!

Jan 2010 I believe, yeah.

The first season of True Blood will be rebroadcast starting June 4. Season 2 starts June 14th. Gotta tape the 1st season and see how good it is. Have you seen it?

Man, I missed this last season of Dexter. FUCK! We moved and I totally spaced out. Been waiting for them to rebroadcast. Grrr. Fucking movie channels should keep the old episodes running nonstop, lol. Season 4 in the fall. Bah.

I'm looking forward to the remake of The Prisoner. Sweet. James Caviezel as No. 6, and fucking Ian McKellen as No. 2. Haha. Could be cool.

When is Mad Men coming back? Have you noticed that these premium shows are hard as a motherfuck to track down in terms of when new seasons start? 8O

^ thx for Trueblood start date - that'll be nice to see in just a few weeks - that show is just whacky and very cool! There's a whole southern flavor, mixed in with strangeness, and a whimsical bloodlust. It's good stuff.

Mad Men is in August. Dexter is also later this year - you GOTTO watch Season 3. It's really a great show.

It's depressing though that there's no good sci fi series on the horizon. Mlah. I became a big fan of the Sarah Connor Chronicles, but it looks to be cancelled now. :evil:

the last 6 episodes of dollhouse were pretty good. the first 5 were horrid crap.

if you gave up on fringe earlier in the season its definitely worth a reexamination

i had a hard time getting into sarah connor. i really wanted to like it. but everytime i tried i just lost interest almost immediately. couldnt stand the kid. thought the writing was horrible. i would revisit it every now and then and it never stuck.

I hope this show actually gets an end.

Carnivale = Canceled
Jericho = Canceled
Unaired Cleveland cartoon = Renewed for 2nd season
Invasion = Canceled
Chuck = Probably Canceled
Arrested Development = Canceled
Heroes = Barely made it thru the writers strike

The problem with this addiction to TV shows is that network execs don't care how good a show is. If it ain't making money, it'll be replaced by a reality show.

You just blew my mind. Good work!

This especially makes sense in that Apep was associated with the underworld of the dead, so it would make sense that he "manisfests" the dead, like Locke, Christian, Ben's daughter, even back to Mr. Ecko's brother.

Or, focusing on the details and missing the big picture.

You're forgetting the heavy Egyptian influence. The glyphs, statue... There were even glyphs on the counter in the Hatch (which translated into something like the Underworld/Afterlife/whatever.

The entire story is about the battle between Egyptian gods; particularly Set and Apep.

Jacob is Set - god of the desert and required chaos. Look on Wiki. The picture shown of Set IS the statue on the island; complete with Was scepter and Ankh Cross.

The Man In Black is Apep, the Egyptian God of Evil.

Richard Alper is most likely Ra.

My guess: it will be revealed that every myth has some truth, and that these guys are the inspiration for their legendary namesakes. Everyone else connected to the island - while important to the island at specific moments in time - are merely pawns in an epic and ageless struggle between Set and Apep. The island is probably some sort of power nexus - a point where our reality/this dimension wears thin. Or the opposite - it's a point that's holding things together. The universe (or multi-verse) is full of them, and there happens to be one right here on earth. A bit of science. A bit of Stephen King's Dark Tower.

What would be cool is to find out that there's some sci-fi behind this..that it's not going to turn out to be just a supernatural/Egyptian mythology explanation. Somehow Apep and Set stumbled upon the island thousands of years ago, and it's energy made them into near-Gods.
