8.1.3???
Re: 8.1.3???
regarding IAC you might want to try a hardware approach and put a midi cable from an output to an input instead.
as for the pops and clicks, maybe your Delay Compensation isn't spot on. if you use Looper I believe that would lead to pops and clicks in Looper.

Re: 8.1.3???
tried the beta for a four hour session last night and things went well. It actually seemed like live was using less CPU and I was running every vst's out of komplete 6 multiple times. I think in total I had sometime like 20 tracks.
I did make it crash a while ago when doing live guitar loops and some kontakt performance drum loops in grouped tracks
Sending a bug report is the easiest thing in the world.
If there are folks reading the thread hesitant to try it, it is so simple and you do not need any programming experience.
lending a helping hand

But this isn't using Looper. This is ANY track recorded into the arrangement view in Live 8.1.1...midi triggered or with the good ol' mouse.
And no plugins used either. Any other ideas?

Re: 8.1.3???
I have noticed something odd relating to tempo on my machine. Perhaps this is why you are getting pops, or related somehow. .
I load up something that I have made in lve at say 123 bpm in iTunes, run it alongside live with somehting else that is 123 bpm, after a while (few bars) they are drifting out. Despite me using the nidge buttons to get em lined up.
now, this could be Itunes, it could be live's render feature (rendering it at slightly under 123 bpm perhaps? or it could be live running in realtime.
Try it and see, i'd be interested to know if others can reproduce this.
I should report this as a bug as well i guess.
I was going to say that live is pretty stable with this iteration for me but I have been getting crashes all night. I suspect it's to do with the fact that I have used 2.10 gigs of ram for the project and as such live doesn't like ti and is falling over more.
Kinda a pain that it's cant use 3 gigs!
Time to do some bouncing as i suspect that is the issue rather than a 'bug' in the software

I slipped into a daze, whilst I was there I heard the most startling music, it was at once familiar and alien, reassuring and unsettling.

maybe if your travels take you to NYC DeSantis could sit down with you.
another shot in the dark...
options-preferences-Record/Warp/Launch
"Create Fades on Clip Edges"
which always seemed to me to be a bit of a way to cover up mistakes in the software.
I've had sets that inherited bugs. one was fixed by support. now my default set is tweaked so that if I delete all the sends I get a hard crash (so I just don't do that.) maybe take a set of yours that's not sick, save it as a new name then import your sick set into it. did you try sending the set (without audio) to [email protected]?
sorry if any of that is redundant, you've posted quite a bit about these bugs, lots of ideas, just not the right one, yet.

Re: 8.1.3???
that's what I was thinking. Live's bpm setting is only so accurate, 122.99999 won't sync with 122.99. was the BPM setting orange? that means it's set to a bpm beyond what it can display.tw1nstates wrote:now, this could be Itunes, it could be live's render feature (rendering it at slightly under 123 bpm perhaps? or it could be live running in realtime.

I had this happen on a friends computer, you would hear a pop at the beginning the loop - it was a glitch in live's playback, but exported audio sounded fine.
Re: 8.1.3???
Thanks for the tips Tone Deft, much appreciated. I started posting on the forums because I have never found Ableton support to be very helpful, even during the brief time I was a featured artist. Really, all you folks on the forums have been the best support there is.
I've tried many things to remove the pops. At first I thought it must be cables, audio interface, grounding, etc. But pursuing all those, swapping interfaces and firewire cables and mic cables and making sure I was on the iso transformer... that didn't change anything. Then I realized that the pops were occurring only at the repeat barline (i.e. the "punch out" spot before Live repeats the section). (p.s. I have fades and warping turned off).
I wondered if it was Live's playback, however, the pops show up in the source .AIF file. If I navigate to the .AIF and open it in QuickTime or Peak or Audacity or whatever, the pop is there. You can see it in the soundwave.
The temp solution I stumbled on is to never record across a repeating section in the arrangement view. In other words, give myself lots of room between punch in and punch out, and don't repeat the section. But that is one of the things that makes Live so easy to use as a quick n dirty DAW.
(like sending MIDI via the IAC driver...another wonderful feature that makes what I do onstage very simple. I used to do an astonishing amount of MIDI routing between software & hardware, which was very prone to fault, hard to troubleshoot on the fly and bulky to travel with... Live cleaned that all up for me)
That's a good tip in general about templates being screwed up. I think it was on a suggestion from the forums (from you?) that I rebuilt my stage templates from scratch last year in an attempt to solve my onstage crashing issues (didn't help but it felt good to have clean templates, like spring cleaning).
For this popping problem though, these are studio pieces using the arrangement view (i.e. Live as DAW). I create every single studio piece from scratch...starting with a single audio track of cello and adding tracks as I go. They are pretty bare. No effects. Just cello recording into track 1, then add another track, record into track 2, etc.
I'd love to know what it is! I'm stumped honestly.

Re: 8.1.3???
yeah, this forum has been a great way to learn about a myriad of music and Live topics. now I just have to learn to apply it.
all in good time.
I'd eliminate the variables. take out the IAC, take out the other tracks, leave only the track you're recording into and the other track with the right pattern of clips. you might also try hiding your preferences.cfg to see if some setting is doing it.
on the flip side maybe take an old set from an older version of Live and try to break it in the same way in 8.1.
maybe Live sends out midi at those transitions, they get fedback into Live and it hiccups. a bug like that in Live? nah...
with MIDI Yoke I had too many ports open and that was screwing up Looper for me. makes no sense but I turned them off and all's well. on that tip, never have track/remote/sync ports active that you don't need open, it's just wasted CPU.

Re: 8.1.3???
My biggest issue with Live 8 is the indeed this MIDI IAC biz....because crashing onstage is downright embarrassing and no program should fail that badly (even when its user error). I'm done troubleshooting it. I've been going back and forth with support on this one for about a year and its been acknowledged by Ableton as a bug. So I really want to know if its fixed.
However, the popping across repeat bar lines tho is a separate issue...and it seems like a big enough deal and I can't believe more people haven't come across it when using Live as DAW. I think its got to be something in my setup. But what is the question, when there is nothing in there, no midi, etc and there is that nagging issue that it didn't happen in Live 7.
I'm in California. Not planning any NYC trips anytime soon, which is a pity because I was there in NYC in Dec (to play with Ms Heap). But if Dennis ever comes out here, I'd love to go through it with him. We both have tracks on the same CD that came out last year...and I made mine in Live

Re: 8.1.3???
I will try sending triggering notes back into live via a midi yoke, when i read an earlier description of your problem i didn`t see a mention of that. One question. are you soue you iac driver is not also sending notes into track, but just set up as remote?
UTENZIL a tool... of the muse.
Re: 8.1.3???
Tarekith made a great point about any software that touts itself as a live performance tool should have stability as priority #1. there shouldn't be silence at a performance ever. there's also the potential to damage peoples' ear drums and destroy thousands of dollars of drivers. screw 64 bit summing, screw max4Live (it hurts to write that), screw the Bridge, screw new warp modes and new Hi-Q modes, Live must be stable to be used live.
why are you the only one with this?
1 - Dennis pointed out once that amazingly most Live users and performers don't post on the forum. I know, I was blown away too, isn't this the center of the universe?
2 - of the people that do post here, I doubt many of them do punch ins and punch outs. it's a very 'Daft Punk' oriented crowd. there are people making amazing organic music but they're the minority. there's a billion different combinations of keystrokes and ways to use Live's features, you found one of them that's broken. I don't think I've done a punch in/out. I always just do another take or edit around the botched notes. I should try it just so I know. I've definitely recorded into Arrange view over repeated sections, my drums always start out as repeating sections.
"In C" - very cool. I've heard that piece, didn't know what or who it was. small world that you two would be on the same compilation.
good luck, sometimes I feel blessed that this is just a hobby for me.

I used em all the time in Cubase. Loved em even...
TBH I actually don't know how to use them in Live. I always think about em when the mic is on and its all ready to go. And I say to myself "damn I wish I knew how to punch in and out in Live. Need to look that up later..."
