Hey LSZ. Synced my first gen iPhone to iTunes and it's telling me 3.1.3 is the current version available for my iPhone. Is this true? Is it just me? Feeling the burn to stand in line Thursday?

1st gen's can't update to iOS 4, even the regular 3G doesn't get all the iOS4 features.

I think this would be unacceptable if this was a computer (probably still is unacceptable to some people) but I think with the advancement of cell phone hardware you can't expect them to be as future proof as you would with a computer and the first gen iPhone is 3 years old.

Don't know how I'd feel if I had a 3G, but this seems to be the pattern, some new features supported on the previous generation but not all.

Honestly, if you can call somebody to tell them your phone is outdated, it probably isn't.

I'm always lagging behind though. I got this old Samsung phone that is good for calling and messaging. Also makes for a good reliable alarm clock.
Now there are needs for different features. Like, I could use a cheap phone with Wifi tethering.
An iPhone costs like 600€ here, not counting ludicrous data plans. This new iPhone will probably cost even more. Then the iPad has yet to get released here. With the cheapest model going near the price of the iPhone or even higher.
I got my popcorn ready, this is a wonderful mess they created here. Macbooks being cheaper than iPads, that'll be a laugh...

Was just talking to a friend last night about how with smart phones, the iPad, and any other similar type device that will be release by whomever, laptops now feel like a tank that are far from mobile or convenient. :)

Couldn't agree more.

Btw PDF on the iPad via iBooks FTW. I can see myself using it more at work too.

There is another app that will let you take notes whilst voice recording. Your typing is synced with recording. You can then click on a word u typed and the audio will jump to when u wrote it. Yet another win.

I was led to believe that they're somewhat cheaper than the older version... I tried googling it... but couldn't find data to support it. (didn't try too hard) beats?

Also, I saw this earlier today... dunno if it will help anyone outside the U.S. that is striving for the latest soon to be slightly outdated technology but here ya go... http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/22/ipho ... t-walmart/

^ link was updated to include Best Buy

meh. The iPhone should be double the price in Europe, and you lot should be pleased to have the priviledge of owning one.

The obvious demographic for that app is guys whose girlfriend or wife is always whining "You never hear what I say and are always distracted doing something else!"

Revolution. Magic.

I believe the order of events was as follows.

Forgive the variance of several hundred dollars. The original iPhone upon release was sold for $600 or $400 (there's that variance!). Less than a year later Apple dropped the price by several hundred dollars. This pissed off early adopters but meh to them, anything Apple charges for their magic is way too little in comparison to what it's worth. Cunts.

Then the next generation of iPhones dropped $100 or so along with Apple's general price decrease on everything in their fine line of products.

Now we're at a very reasonable $200 - $300 price point and if Europe is having price issues they need to GTFO of Europe and move to the states. We have fat chicks!
