Live 9 browser NIGHTMARE !!!
Re: Live 9 browser NIGHTMARE !!!
Nothing interesting about the browser though.
Re: Live 9 browser NIGHTMARE !!!
I think the interesting part as far as browsing goes was in the 9.0.3 release that they pulled, but those changes will most certainly be in the 9.0.4 update as well.zeepster wrote:Nothing interesting about the browser though.

No it works fine im still finding samples not scanned in my external drive and the folder on my 2nd drive has all samples in it and it is a 'place' folder in the live browser environment.Michael Hatsis wrote:I didn't upgrade to Live 9- a big reason is because of the "browser", so i can't test this out. Wouldn't you have to do this trick every time you boot up live?

Re: Live 9 browser NIGHTMARE !!!
In windows 7 this is true, I am still finding samples that show up but do not have the tick like they do once they are scanned. So I do indeed have a large samples folder that contains samples which do not already have a .asd file with the audio file.androids wrote:That's not true.tommeehowat wrote:Hi don't know if this helps but first time installing live 9 it scans all external folder for samples when you add it as a 'Place' folder.
Try making that folder very small, let it scan, close Live, then add all your samples to that location. Start Live, folders should now show up under that Place folder/drive, with content and without scanning every file as was the case before in Live 8.
I added empty versions of all my subfolders in my main "sample folders", scanned them, then closed Live.
When I start Live again, the "Ableton Index.exe" process is starting and start scanning all the content, done in background.
Anyway if you dont scan the content, it will no be displayed, so the only solution is to add and scan all you sample/lib content, wait, wait, wait, wait until it's done and use live.
Too bad if you have a slow computer.
I also noticed that on windows the "Ableton index.exe" process is launched with a default priority of "lower than normal", so if you want to process scan at first, before really using ableton, I suggest to change the priority to something like "high", it should be faster ...

But .asd doesn't mean scanned

True.zeepster wrote:But .asd doesn't mean scanned
.asd means "previewed/warped"
The live 9 scanning process only create and index of 'ableton-readable' files in folders/subfolder (like .wav, .mp3,.rx2 etc...) but no .asd are created during indexing.
Re: Live 9 browser NIGHTMARE !!!
I finally jumped in and installed 9.0.4, my first "iteration" of Live 9. I bought a launchpad and have been itching to use it, but didn't want to install 9 yet because of the Library issues. The 9.0.3/4 release notes indicate they've tuned the indexing on OSX, so I figure I'd give it a shot.
I installed all the Live packs and that went smooth. I have NOT added a sample directory yet, so that will be my next step.
Any tips on what to do or not do when I do that? I have less than 100Gig.

Re: Live 9 browser NIGHTMARE !!!
Installed 9.0.4 and deleted my 1.4 go database file ...
Full scanning took me exactly 12 hours and 18 minutes instead of 14 hours with 9.0.1.
DO YOU REALLY THINK IT'S WHAT YOU CAN CALL "IMPROVEMENT" ON INDEXING ????
Live 9.0.4 indexing STILL sucks big time and is ridiculously slow compared to other similiar indexing tools which are able to index my whole "sample" folder in less than 30 minutes (for exemple "Where Is It").

sounds like either your computer is very very old.... or you're scanning a USB1 device...
or something is terribly wrong with your system...

i've had no such issues.
Re: Live 9 browser NIGHTMARE !!!
I think he meant his database file itself was 1.4gb, not the data he was scanning. Which sounds about right probably, my db file is 800meg, and thats for ~300-400gigs of samples. That probably took 3-4hours to fully scan everything. So to do ~1TB could definitely take 12hrs3dot... wrote: 12 hours for 1.4 GB ????
