I don't recall if this has been covered earlier in the thread, but for those who are wondering I found this list on sonikmatter of what is lacking in Logic Express vs. Logic Pro/Studio:
Before doing the list.....obviously, Logic Studio - which is the only way to get Logic Pro 8 - also offers WaveBurner, MainStage, SoundTrack Pro 2 and so on.

Logic Express 8 is actually the same as Logic Pro 8 — just without the following features:
- Support for high-end control surfaces (Euphonix, SmartAV)
- DAE/TDM support
- DAP (distributed audio processing with Logic Node)
- Surround
- EVP88
- EVB3
- EVD6
- Sculpture
- Space Designer
- Delay Designer
- Linear Phase EQ
- Match EQ
- Multipressor (there is only the 'Preset Multipressor' as in LE7)
- AdLimiter
- Multimeter

My thanks to yoctoyotta for this info.

Also, Logic Express doesn't include most of the content. The Logic Express install is 6GB, whereas Logic Studio is 46GB.

Now - everybody stand back and wait for all the "early adopters" to fill up the forums with whining about how Logic 8 is a nest of bugs and broken promises.

It's always the same with every long-awaited update.

I can remember when Live 2.0 was going to be the last word in music software. We're on version 6 now and you're all still moaning about slicers and dummy clips.

Logic 8 is no more the last word in DAW software than Logic 3 or Logic 4 was.

And, as any fule kno, you really should wait until at least v8.1 before squirting your cash down the internet, lest you end up paying to be a beta tester.

P.s. Logic 8/Live 7 won't make your music sound any better and you've been suckered.

Again.

Well here are my two thoughts having been both a Logic and Live user:

I left Logic because the workflow in Live and the user interface in live were just plane better and more efficient. Apple look to have seen this and are making in roads to a more consolidated interface. Live still has sessions view.

When I purchased Live I was a bit pissed of that it didnt come with Sampler and Operator considering the retail price already. I mean you dont even get a synth with live what a gouge. I thought this BEFORE the new logic price slash and upgrade.

Since migrating to Live from Logic I have had to source many other plugs from other manufacturers to replace what I could do with Logic straight out of the box. And still havent got everything I used to use.
In my opinion Ableton should chuck in Simpler, Operator, and EIC with the purchase of Live and not think twice about it. They should do this like right bloody now.

Ableton (hope your listening) should be thinking about improving the flagship product as a whole and not trying to make some cash on the side out of Sampler and Operator. Secondly Sampler and Operator Im sorry to say it have always been overpriced for what they are. Their only selling point is interface integration with live.

That all being said I thing that Ableton are a great company and are very supportive of the users and god knows we are all trying to make a living in this world. And I still prefer Live to logic its just better for making music. I hope Ableton hear my thoughts which seems to have been reinforced throughout this thread.

People want Value for Money and that can surely be seen in this thread.

I'm with electrolee on this one after reading the whole 22 pages, i figure ;

Live 6 + Logic Express 8 + my pluggs = anything i'd expect i can handle to do including my "pre-mastering"

(As Mr Tarekith points out), as far as real mastering goes, that's for the masters, even my more professional mates/buddies/amis send their stuff off to the real masters for final mastering, always stating how friggin better it sounds when it comes back , even after all the work they do them selves,

jsut my two cntes wrtoh
