picture the face of the CEO of Hardcandy today. They decided to make cases for the iPhone 5 ahead of time, to keep ahead of the competition.
Hard Candy cases says it received identical data about the device from three sources. This is what they heard:

Large 4.44-inch screen.
It is significantly bigger than the iPhone 4, but the case tapers, making it feel a lot thinner.
Large, lozenge-shaped Home button (This is rumored to be integrated with new Assistant function, allowing tasks to be controlled by voice).

---------
Hickman said the company has made similar bets in the past and has been right. If Hard Candy hadn’t already started making the cases, it risked being left out when the device goes on sale. Retailers are going to fill their shelves with whatever cases are available, Hickman explained, and Hard Candy can’t risk being late.

“This is 100% trying to survive in the market,” he said in a phone interview. “You’ve got to get product in quantity on the shelf.”

ouch.

Anyone want to buy a nicely designed thin tapered case with a 4.44 inch hole. might be good for, um. keeping tears and broken dreams in. Perhaps?
Nice and cheap. bulk discounts available.

H20nly wrote:^ well, technically they're practically giving away 3Gs at 50 bucks (or less) so the playing field is a little skewed on that one.
That's an odd perspective - Apple is still getting paid for every one of those units, plus it's introducing the customer to the Apple ecosystem - and right now Apple is the only smartphone manufacturer with a loyalty rate above 50% - and it's at 89%!! http://www.intomobile.com/2011/09/22/ip ... t-so-much/

That translates to a shit ton of iPhone 4s or 5 or whatever is on the market when those free 3Gs customers upgrade down the line.

I understand the tech dweebs are disappointed they don't get a redesign, but Apple is executing like they invented the guillotine right now, and while voice recognition has been a spotty idea up to now, I seriously think Siri is the game changer. In fact, Apple has pioneered 2 computer interface paradigms so far - the "windows" gui 30 years ago, and the iOS touch interface 4 years ago. I think Siri is the next paradigm.

Do you know the delicious irony of the 4S release?

EVEN THE HATERS ARE PISSED THAT THERE WAS NO IP5.

Apple will release a new design when it's ready.

A few things not to forget:

1) The iPhone 3GS was cosmetically identical to the iPhone 3G, but it destroyed it performance-wise. The throughput on the 3GS slayed the 3G. It made it look like a shameful fool.

2) The iPhone will now be available on AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint.

3) You can now get an iPhone 3GS for free with a contract.

Free is the magic price that everyone is willing to pay. Free is the big prize in the "race to zero." You can bet the Jeff Bezos dreams about giving the Kindle Fire away for free, but for now he's just going to have to settle for losing ten dollars with each unit sold.

Apple is poised to have another record year.

Personally I think everybody should not buy the iPhone 4s, they certainly shouldn't preorder one and they should stay away from any stores in the northwest of England which may have them in stock. I certainly will not be upgrading my battered old 3gs as soon as this new phone becomes available, and neither should you. Thanks.

Apple haters are already tiresome with their rantings on the Internet. At first I thought it would be riveting to watch a reality show following the lives of Apple haters, but then I realized it would just be webcam footage of dudes in Stargate SG1 t-shirts angrily typing away their cost and spec analysis dissertation followed by patting themselves on the back between each post.

For some people free is still too expensive because it’s not available on the ghetto bottom line month to month carriers like t-mobile and metro.

I get needing to watch your money, but what I don’t get is people on these McCarriers with subpar service loving the fact that they aren’t tied to a long term contract but stay with them for years and years anyway. If you can’t afford a real man’s cell plan then you probably can’t afford the adventurous life that would require you to change carriers at a minute’s notice.

Granted, there are people who are legitimately broke and need these low cost/zero obligation carriers. But the people I know who use them are just cheap cunts.

well truthfully i made an error... they're ACTUALLY (not practically) - giving them away.

still, your point is totally valid and a good one at that... especially the introduction piece.

i just like to bust LSZ's balls a little. someone has to keep him on his toes and play a little devil's advocate

I demand 1 thing and 1 thing only of the iPhone 5 and iPad 3. 128G drive models. I think the main issue has always been cost but as SSDs become cheaper and are coming closer to being the standard price shouldn’t be an issue. :x

Too soon? NO. Steve would want this thread to carry on after only the briefest of respect pauses. :x
