god damn! 939 all the way!!!! I think this is the best I've seen so far, this athlon 64 chip is seriously blowing my mind... in every audio app I've seen, this chip is smoking everything out there... even chips 2/3 times it's price.

amazing! 8O

Anyone downloaded the free Windows Beta of XP64 ?
I'd like to see how XP64 Pro works with AMD & these tests because the AMD's look pretty smokin' to me also :D .

thats an overall performance gain of 12% (note: not a reduction of 12 points, but an OVERALL gain)

i've also been running x64, but saw no change in performance.
kinda like how some OSX10.3.8 users are seeing advantages over 10.3.7, but not all of them are.

still, not bad for a 32bit app running in a 64bit environment on 64bit hardware.

2. Apple Powerbook 17" (latest revision)
3. OS X 10.3.8
4. G4 1.67 GHz
5. 1.5 GB DDR SDRAM PC2700U-25330
6. Built-in audio
7. 100GB 5400rpm

Pretty much what I expected, thanks to the results posted in this thread, so I'm very happy!

This is quite interesting. A G5 iMac 1.8 scored 33% and the G5 Powermac 1.8 (Rev. A) scores 31%. The Powerbook isn't that far behind.

compared to when he was using XP 32-bit.
the gain came when using the 64-bit XP.

Adam - Why don't you try the performance test with your new machine. I'd be curious to see if any of your optimizations make a difference compared to other G4 Powerbooks.

its scoring 48% which is the average for G4 1.5ghz machines. but i haven't made many optimizations.
for me its not such a big deal, on the HP i rarely went above 50%, and also i prefer some of the Apple AU plugins instead of the ones i was using on XP (including some Ableton FX), in the end after using the more effecient AU's i'm not taking much of a performance hit by using the powerbook. Now, if i didn't prefer some of the AU's or prefer to mangle some of my VSTi sounds in the clip editor after resampling it would be a different story. For me, and many other users, it works out. At the time i bought the HP i was really into Reaktor. Now i'm more into Operator which i resample almost always (pc or mac). And fortunately impOscar and Oddity came on multi-platform CDs.

i'll stop justifying and just say for me, it performs well. :)

Anyone got the specs for.........

a) iMac G5 20" - on Live 4.0 test ?

b) can let me know how stable Logic 7 is .

I'm considering going from PC to Mac and just uisng Live / Logic + Reason 3 - the 1.8 20" look's like a great value deal IMHO and my eyesight is pretty crap so a big screen would be a bonus.

Ahem! Ah, I made an error actually. It's 41% at 2048 samples (which is what I normally use). I just retested, and at 512 samples it's 43% peak. I'll go back and update my results post...

Finally got my new Powermac today :

1) Ableton Live CPU Meter % : 31-33%
2) Laptop/Desktop? PowerMac G5
3) Operating System : Mac OsX I think 10,3,5 (standard install - no updates installed yet)
4) CPU Make Model andSpeed : Single 1,8 Ghz
5) Amount of Ram / Speed of Ram : 1 GB Ram
6) Soundcard (Stock or add on?, usb/firewire/pci ?) : Internal
7) Hard Disk Drive Speed (if you know) : 7200 rpm

I'm a happy man ...:-)

Edit : Made all the necessary upgrades and on 10,3,8 still peaks around 33 , but less than on the previous test .
