Has anyone tried using the Midi Surface app along with the Line 6 Midi Mobilizer to control hardware synths?

If so, how do you like it?

Is there a better hardware/software solution for the iPhone to control external synths via midi?

Have a look at S1 MIDI Trigger: http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php? ... 5#p1224955

Hi:
I recently was gifted an iPad and I'm trying to figure out if I should keep it. All this Touch OSC, TouchAble, etc. stuff seems like it has a lot of potential, so I wanted to pose a few questions before I either opened the box or returned it.

I'm using Live for live looping and my sound card it set for low latencies. One of the first things that Ableton (and other software companys) recommends to improve latency and reduce audio glitches is to disable the wireless card.

Of course, to use an iPad (without jailbreaking) would require that the wireless card is enabled. I tested out Touch OSC on an ad hoc network with a friend's iPhone, and I was getting audio glitches with the wireless card enabled. This was during a set with low CPU usage where I would never hear any glitches normally.

My questions:

1) Are any of you running into this issue? Or are most of you using pre-recorded clips where maybe 50ms of latency is not an issue.
2) Or are you jailbreaking your iPads and connecting via MyWi over USB?
3) Some of my friends say that "jailbreaking" is not worth the risks?
4) Are there some other options that I haven't discovered?

Thanks,

I've no doubt that any app (like touchAble or TouchOSC or etc) that currently relies on wifi will soon be able to take advantage of CoreMIDI via the Line6 MIDI Mobilizer or USB Camera Connection Kit.

I'd keep that iPad.

And don't jailbreak. Steve Jobs doesn't like that.

I'd return it and wait a month for the better ones to come out.

Can anyone recommend a good, clean, iPad program to sequence synthetic drums / bass? I guess Rebirth would have been great, but I paid for it on the iPhone where it's a total useless piece of s**t and I can't bring myself to now pay more money for the iPad version (I stupidly assumed the universal binary would be a free upgrade).

I know there's a ton out there, just looking for personal recommendations... thanks!
