Now you mention it - yes that is annoying.

Nobody because Android refuses to take itself seriously....music wise.

Read some :) and some :x about Match whenever it's released.

There was something mentioned about Apple TV integration. To me this means you'll be able to stream content to your Apple TV without having to have iTunes open on your computer (which it should fucking work that way anyway) BUT I assume that will only work with music because I don't think Apple has hammered out contracts with the movie and film industries yet. :x

Also a screen capture that showed the preference box for setting up Match included a line warning you not to delete media from your drive once it's been synced with iCloud and Match. WTF? I'm sure people regularly delete media from their libraries for whatever reason. That's not an obscure need and it shouldn't fuck things up. :x

That OS always seems like complete chaos from a dev perspective as I guess OEMs just get the source and do whatever the fuck they like with it - surprised anything worthwhile apps wise gets released for it at all.

One thing the apple have that the other don't - continuity. For the most part my old 3gs runs most current apps fully (so long as its not dependent on new hardware features) even if a little slowly sometimes due to the free OS upgrades we get - for the others there no OS upgrades beyond service fixes. Windows Mobile 8 or 9 or whatever might have all sorts of amazing crap in it - totally friggin useless to anyone with a windows 7 mobile. For android - it seems even worse as it looks like you're screwed unless the app was released specifically for the model and version that you have.

This alone is the reason why it doesn't matter how good any phone or tablet gets - unless they can guarantee a reasonable level of continuity through OS major upgrades etc, I won't touch it.

Talking of tablets, I was just watching a developer conference presentation of some of the new metro touch stuff in Windows 8 for touch tablets - it actually looks like their new touch UI might be ahead of even apple iOS and Lion touch support and general UI thinking for tablet type machines 8O

It's not quite that bad, although there are a ton of screen resolutions and button configurations to test for.

The big issue is OS updates, where as usual, the carriers insert themselves and fuck everything up. Read this, it's pathetic: http://theunderstatement.com/post/11982 ... of-support

Now, if you're a big geek, you can root and run Cyanogenmod or something else, as I did for about 90% of the time I used my G1. This represents one of the great strengths of Android, the OS is open source, and really awesome teams of amateur (or not) developers have been porting Android to unintended devices for the duration of the platform's existence.

However, normal humans, who shouldn't be forced to jump through those kinds of hoops just to keep the thing they bought working for the length of the contract it's associated with, get the shaft.

That represents and affects about .00000001% of the buying public.

Maybe some licensing thing - must have a copy of the original somewhere (even if its from a dodgy torrent).

TBH I'm not holding out much hope for match if the number of ripped CDs iTunes couldn't find artwork for is anything to go by - if so, then iTunes has maybe 10% of the CDs I have - 20M or whatever tracks on apple servers and I guess most of them are shite! :?

Ever since I updated to iOS 5 and the whole cloud sync crap I can’t use the “update all” function in the app store for my apps on the iPad. I tap it and nothing happens. I can only update 1 at a time. What the Hell?!? :x

App updates have been OK for both my iPhone and iPad a few minutes ago - 3 updates on iPhone, 6 on the iPad and all updated ok.
Must admit, they have been a bit slow at time recently though - server load perhaps?

(Bollox - that the 3rd time in a row Ive missed hitting F8 to get my PC into safe made - grrrr - fookin PCs!)

I think the current state of iCloud and wireless syncing is a mess, put it on par with iOS MIDI. There’s all kinds of exceptions to what it won’t do or when it won’t do it or things you have to go in and specify. I think the only reason there aren’t loud complaints is because the majority of users don’t know WTF it is or its potential. I expect a similar mess when Match is released. :x

What amazes me with much is how the hell they got record companies to agree to it 8O

Ie streaming copies to folks wherever and however they got their copy of a track - maybe they are getting kickbacks from carriers for the extra data usage - might be why the useless bastards by the name of orange in the uk have cut back their included data allowances on new contracts - grrrr
