Re: OT: LOST
The problem is that there's MASSIVE story arcs that have simply been abandoned. The last 2 seasons saw some really cool stuff with the SCIENCE of the island; with a bit of Egyptian mystic stuff thrown in for color. Christ, the time travel stuff was front and center.
Suddenly this season all of that's been thrown out entirely. That's too bad. It's like the creators had two strong, age-old themes - science and religion - and couldn't make up their minds which way to go. Instead of combining them this season for some kick ass resolutions/discoveries, it's all hocus pocus mumbo jumbo. meh.
Guess the science side was just too much for the dullards to handle.

Personal preference I'm sure, but I'm more interested in how people and storylines are connected than scientific reasons as to why. I'm liking the supernatural direction it's going. Granted, this way simplifies things and allows for some things to go unanswered beyond speculation.LoopStationZebra wrote:The problem is that there's MASSIVE story arcs that have simply been abandoned. Re: OT: LOST
Nothing wrong with combining all: science, relationships, good vs evil, mythologies, supernatural, etc. This is what made the Dark Tower series from King so brilliant. Maybe we'll get some of that in these last remaining shows.
As for the loose ends and threads hanging out there.. Oh my. There's a mountain of them.
How did Faraday's Mom and Pop (Widmore) get to the island? How did they find out about it? They were the start of the others, but why did Ben kick Widmore off the island?
How did Hanso/Dharma find out about the island? They've only hinted at the power that Dharma and others discovered, yet clearly they knew there were also supernatural forces at work - hence all the Egyptian symbols on the Hatch computer readouts.
How the fuck did an A-bomb get on the island?

Re: OT: LOST
each season has it's own focus, season 5 was time time-travelling/movements of the island, season 6 is the origins and purpose of the island. I'm glad they didn't keep talking about time travel even if I liked season 5. Part of what makes this show enjoyable is the multitude of themes and aspects to discover and ponder upon.
What I would like to see more of is the origins of the "others". we have seen last week how Richard got his job, but what about the rest of the Others?
One thing that seems strange to me: In the first few seasons, the Others were like uber-ninjas, with mad skills and all. Now you see them walking around and they look like helpless bumpkins... WTF?

These will all be covered in the 2-hour epic finale.LoopStationZebra wrote:Nothing wrong with combining all: science, relationships, good vs evil, mythologies, supernatural, etc. This is what made the Dark Tower series from King so brilliant. Exactly. lol. The badass Others... hmm. And what about the Temple? WTF? How come we didn't know about the Temple before this? Are the Others at the temple the elite forces division? hah. Why does the Japanese guy seem to know more about what's going on than Ben? Why was Ben so knowledgable before, but seems utterly perplexed and retarded now? What happened to 'the box' - where things could appear (like Locke's father). wtf?
You see.... Brah. Fuck. It's like what happened with X-Files; tons of loose ends that are just forgotten.
At this point, all I can hope for is that Lost doesn't end in a miasma of SHIT like Battlestar....

^ oh hell no...I'd be so pissed if they pulled a Starbuck-disappearance on us like that...

The Temple was mentionned a few times from season 3 onward, season 6 was the first time we got to see it.
The Japanese guy probably knows more than Ben because he's been on the island longer and probably has a higher rank.
'The box' thing was just a metaphor than Ben used to explain to John what the island is (although we know now he didn't know as much as he pretended). Locke's father was simply kidnapped by people working for the Others on the mainland.

Right you are about the Temple being mentioned. Doh. Forgot that.
Not sure about the Japanese guy being on the island longer. He talked about being a banker in Osaka, picking up his son from baseball... I'm gonna guess that puts him on the island at the same time as Ben, or later. He clearly has more knowledge as to what's going on than Ben; who now only seems to be quite clueless. Christ, he wasn't even aware what or whom the smoke monster was, lol. Kinda pisses me off, actually. He was a great nemesis and now he's just a bumbling idiot.
Yes, I know there wasn't an actual 'box' per se. However, Ben described an actual place on the island to Locke and used the box metaphor. Not THE island. A PLACE on the island. *shrug*.

Re: OT: LOST
There has been professional baseball in Japan since the 1920's, and banks way before that. I think the japanese guy could technically have been there before Ben. My guess was the 1970's...
btw I'm not trying to be argumentative, just trying to figure out what's going on

Re: OT: LOST
Desmond is one of my favorite characters of the series. His story arcs were always superb - from when we first see him as a manic, freaked out dude pushing the button - right through to his last scene on the boat.
Thought he was written out. Now he clearly has a pivotal role to play. Sweet.
