My comment was more directed at the Urban Dictionary definitions. They're so vague, that they could apply to virtually anyone who rides a FG.

But, absolutely, I know the type of person you're referring to, so I took no personal offense.

I see them all the time here, riding recklessly, running red lights, against traffic, almost running people over, endangering themselves and others, just cause they're trying to show how "hard" they ride. Jackasses.

I've yelled a thing or two at a few of them once or twice lately. Can't stand it.

Motobecane : a typical solid french product... That brings me back in the 80s, when I rode a Mobylette.

ya i totally dig this bike
it has shimano 600 components on it
but i want to replace the bars with drops
and i need to get a descent wheel set
i forgot what its like to ride with crap wheels
i broke an inside rear spoke on the way to work
but i managed to compensate it enough so the tires didn't rub.
i ended up getting a ride home at the end of the night because i didn't
trust the wheel to get me home without breaking more spoke.
plus it was nice to get a ride up the hill after three days
of slightly hard core pedicabing.
hopefully i can trade around for a descent wheel set this week.

I got a hold of an old Peugoet road bike from the 80s recently... nice ride straight away, I reckon once I get some new wheels and tyres and a couple of other bits it'll be even nicer

Just did the Berlin Velothon yesterday!



120km in 3h24m - 20 minutes better than last year, despite the torrential rain. 10000+ riders, beautiful route including a new section along the old Tempelhof airport runway, highly recommended if you get the chance...

Wow. That's a lot of people. Are there a lot of crashes in this event, or does it usually stay safe?

There are quite a few crashes unfortunately. Last year, there were something like 17 hospital cases (out of 13000 riders); this year, due to the weather, I expect it would be more - there was a report of someone in hospital in critical condition after crashing yesterday. Had a few close calls, a few body checks in the pack, but nothing serious... all good fun. Certainly improves your reactions, cycling in the middle of a big pack, only inches behind the guy in front and knowing that there's someone inches behind you so you can't touch the brakes...

the long race is indeed very nice because it covers a whole lot of the city. wanna do it next year. thank god for the flip-flop option.

It's still safer to cycle to work or to the station than to walk. These maps show where accidents occur, and some of the characteristics of the accidents.
The maps can be used to help campaigners; the London Cycling Campaign are using the London mapping to help in negotiations with the Mayor of London.
Use the maps to analyse your journey to work or favourite ride.

HAH! Holy shit. That Cancellara guy screwed himself by getting carried away with the motor. Bursting into such huge leads all of a sudden while looking like he's barely putting in any effort made it too obvious. Cheating fail.

I was going to say it looks pretty bad there in the US, but come to think of it, I've seen plenty of idiotic behaviour from drivers here too... just haven't had a camera to record it, plus I always assume that the drivers are going to do something stupid, so am way more cautious... like the way home the other day, a taxi makes a big effort to overtake me just so that he can cut me off, turning off (without indicating) to a side-road a few metres later...
