that setting in the system pref's has to be changed to "Highest" in order to complete the test properly. (see pg1). You have to ask one of the apple store employees to type in their password in order to change that.
They're usually pretty willing.

AFAIK the "processor" option is only avaiable on laptop models which may account for the PB but not the iMac (or the dual G5 for that matter).

nope, its on the imac too.
In addition, the iMac G5 computer allows the user to control speed of the processor and bus. The options for specifying either high, reduced, or automatic processor and bus speeds are located at System Preferences>Energy Saver>Options; then select Automatic (default), Highest, or Reduced.
note that Automatic is the default.

1) 19% peak 21%
2) Laptop Acer 1524wmli
3) Windows xp Home
4) 3400+ e.g. 2200mhz
5) 1024mb
6) Echo Indigo.
7) 7200rpm.

One think about this laptop is that you have to disable the ACPI battery monitor. Otherwise you get glitches and clicks in the audiostream.
With this device disabled they're gone.

To do this go to:
Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager >
And disable Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery

I hope Acer/microsoft wil be able to solve this problem with a patch,
so you have the battery monitor back. But I will mostly use this on
AC Its not a big deal.

commuter, what a steal!!!

FYI, your machine is better spec'd than you think. The HD's in iMacs are actually 7200rpm Serial ATA, and if Apple put in the extra 256MB themselves, chances are you have a matched pair of ram which means you are running your memory in Dual Channel, which is a nice little memory bandwidth boost. :)

congrats!

1) 55-57%
2) Mac Mini
3) 10.3.8
4) G4 1.42
5) 1 Gb
6) Yamaha O1X
7) Internal 60 Gb

Same w. built in audio.

Doesn't look that good, but I am very impressed with the little box (as a PC user): quiet, robust, gets the job done fine. kpop

8O
well, i really don't understand the way OSX work..
Yesterday the test gave me 35/36% with my imac G5 (see my post above)
today it's 37/39% with stock audio and 38/40% with my Edirol UR80...
Strange, i've installed a few apps since yesterday and don't know which one can cause this ......
It seems that my PCR80 midi keyboards is responsible for a 2% of cpu increase..
Anyone understand this?

1) 23% (peaks at 24% very seldom)
2) Laptop (Custom)
3) Windows XP SP1
4) Pentium Centrino 1.8GHz
5) 1GB (don't know speed)
6) Echo Indigo io (turned the inputs off but latency figure still reported)
7) 5400 RPM

I don't know for sure if this matters but I have a graphics card with its own 64MB memory.

I'm surprised and happy to see that my machine does as good as dual-cpu G5 machines.

My results:

1) 22% (peaks at 23%)
2) Compaq Presario R3240CA
3) Windows XP SP1
4) AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (2 GHz)
5) 1.25GB at 333 MHz
6) MOTU 828
7) 7200 RPM with an 8 mb cache

Nvidia 64 meg graphics card

As a side note, my CPU went up a whopping 1% (to 24%) at 128 and 96 samples instead of 512, thereby giving me a latency or 4 milliseconds. yikes. With no dropouts. Damn, I like MOTU, and this is their ORIGINAL, old 828.

Figured I'd finally try the benchmark myself... =)

1. 26%, peaks at 30%
2. Desktop, Hand built
3. Windows XP SP1
4. AMD 2600+ XP, 2.13Ghz
5. 768Mb, PC3200 400MHz DDR
6. Creative USB MP3+
7. 5400RPM, I think

I'll try it after installing SP2 and also with my external soundcard to see if it makes a difference. Somehow, I have a feeling that it won't...

My laptop is also being stupid atm, so I'll have to try that out later. =/

1) 23% - 25%
2) Dell Inspiron 6000
3) Windows XP Home SP2
4) Pentium Centrino "Sonoma" 1.6GHz
5) 512x1 DDR2 RAM
6) ASIO4ALL -> Internal SigmaTel Audio card
7) 60 GB 7200 RPM

Got this new for $1150 shipped last week. Unbelievable. I haven't tried the test with the M-Audio Firewire Audiophile yet.. I wonder how it'll differ?

is there an updated graph to reflect, for example, comparisons with the new Powerbooks?
