I don't remember if I mentioned this already, but the iVI video conversion app will also insert chapter titles into the time line after the fact. 8O

At first I thought it was some kind of Jobs type wizardry but then found out the internet DVD database includes at what minute and second position a chapter starts and what the title is. So it just tags it based on that. Still pretty cool.

BUT about the only time you will realize this is when you pause a movie because it only displays the chapter title then, or maybe also when you rewind and fast forward. But to my knowledge there is no way to instantly jump to a chapter in a single continuous video file (although I've seen it in podcasts) and even if you could but can't do it with the Apple remote IT'S SHIT! :x

For those who give a fuck, the first 9 episodes of the TV show Pan Am are available for free download on iTunes.

There's a funny review complaining about the inaccurate labeling of the plane model used and who does what in the flight crew during take off. That's not the funny part. 133 people found that review helpful. <-THAT'S

Dude. When viewing a file simply press downward on the main circle. You'll see CHAPTER markers. You can then use the FF/RW arrows to jump to whatever chapter you wish. :P

Match, IMO, is a clusterfuck.

1. It has decided I didn't need all that artwork anyway.
2. Random stuff is duplicated (iPhone/iPad).
3. Tracks don't pre-buffer. You have 3.5 minutes to think about this, and you only start buffering now?!!
4. Because of this, hitting Next immediately stops the playing track (when a cloud track is next). So there will an unpredictable amount of silence before the next track (even on Wifi). As a user I do not want to think about where the track comes from. If I wanted the music to stop I'd have pressed Pause.
5. Decent 3G reception != guarantee that a song will play the whole way through.
6. Going from a 3G -> Edge area = you effectively have no iPod ('the iTunes store is unavailable')
7. Every song skipped will be downloaded in the background. Even on Edge.
8. ^ This kills the Music app. Because it's doing more than it can handle, it becomes unresponsive. Under these conditions if a local track turns up in shuffle it still needs 20-30 seconds to get its shit together before playing. (iPhone 4)
9. When shuffling it seems to favour the cloud over the local version of a song.
10. Turning off 'Show All Music' mid-shuffle has no effect. Presumably you need to start a new shuffle.
11. Once you turn it on, you can no longer manually sync playlists.
12. It's possible I can get better
12. Fucking cloud icons everywhere.

tl;dr don't even think about using Match with an iPhone. Granted most of these issues are compounded by using a cellular data connection, but currently the only way I can see it being possible to reliably play music on my phone is to turn off Show All Tracks & disable Use Cellular Data in the Store settings, effectively restricting myself to wifi only.

It just butthurts.

I have a couple Mac related questions. Can I? May I? OK, thanks.

Does anybody know of a plug-in app that will let you choose your audio output source from the menu bar or something similarly simple? Most of the time I’m fine with sound coming out of the internal speakers but it’s the lazy man’s worst nightmare when I want to switch to my external interface and have to go to the settings app…and then the sound control panel….and then click on the audio interface…and then do it again if I want to switch back…. <-PAINFUL I just want one pulldown goddamnit! :x

Act 2:

I have my media library on an external drive attached to my Mini because the internal drive is too small. Is there a way to Time Machine backup that external drive to another external drive even though it isn’t the boot drive? It would be a damn shame to lose all the movies and TV shows I’ve totally legally amassed over the years.

This is the only purpose I see for Match at this point, but Match doesn’t currently cover movies or TV shows, and even if it did, how much do you think the bank rapists at Apple would charge for a terabyte of cloud storage? :x

8O jebus you're right! i honestly looked right past it... thought it was a typo or something. i should have read it "does not equal" because... the pathetic thing is... i should be coding in an application right now instead of posting here - making triggers with = or != all over them.

yeah. it's a sign.
