this looks like the perferct long awaited thing, a REWRITE of Live.

The real question is, will it remain stable as they begin to add more and more features????

at least it's a fresh new re-start with global perspective and fundamentals corrected,
updated, enhanced, re-freshed. so it may be not fully stable at start, but it will certainly be
more stable than live very quicly, as not bloated/patched over-time with all the backward compatibility problems,
and presupposed cleaner new 'global' code, that seem well thinked and future oriented.. im quite confident and excited.

Performance is still one of its core focuses and always will be, but they've branched out into other areas and will continue to in the future. Ableton's versatility is a big part of what makes it so brilliant. "The point" of Live depends on the user, and it's used for a multitude of reasons. I fail to see how that automatically equates to "lazy" and "needing everything."
You fail to comprehend my argument.

Well fixing whatever limitations are in ReWire that make it incapable of having VST's for both hosts isn't going to be something that benefits Propellerheads at all. They release no DAW that hosts VSTs/AUs/RTAS etc. they release Reason which works perfectly as a rewire slave. It's all about the $$$ and the time it would take to make all their competitors capable of doing without them. That's why I think if it happens the next 'version' of rewire is going to come from another company.

weird that a crowd that was burned and bitter about the Live 8 bugs is so quick to love this thing. where did these guys come from? all I see are screenshots.

still, looking forward to the beta test and I appreciate the increased competition for Ableton.

All I can say is I've watched the BW video many times and it hasn't crashed once, not once!

I'm just about ready to switch, I can tell you...

I sat and looked at the pictures with Katy Perry's producer and he commented on how crisp and clear they are. We did a direct comparison to a set of pictures of ProtoolsHD, and although they were completely different they were also both the same!!! They both had the same clarity and vibrance you expect in a picture of a real pro application!
We both agreed right then and there that we were very, very, suspicious about those mushrooms we ate.

Exciting stuff.

However, I see nothing so far to indicate that it's going to outperform Live in the live arena.

If it doesn't have virtually unlimited internal routing/MIDI capabilities - including things like full OSC support - I see little reason for me to switch.

:x

I'm interested in checking Bitwig Studio out when it comes along (also very interested in Live 9 and I hope it comes soon).

Also curious as to how folk expect the feature set and GUI to be drastically different from Live with the whole Clip/session view paradigm anyway?

Seems to me that most DAWs have almost identical features and from a usability standpoint there isn't a lot that differ between them other than basic look and feel... whether transport bars go top or bottom, the browser left or right etc.

The GUI reminded me a bit of Maschine in feel, which I don't mind at all... guess the proof will be in the pudding (Sorry, I must be hungry.)

you should be. Steinberg has been dusting mushrooms for months now with dried embalming fluid. if you woke up with a dongle in your ass then no further proof of the conspiracy is needed.

We've gotten one thing at least one thing from Bitwig that we haven't from Ableton and that is this amazing picture:
