Thanks man. Broke my seat on that jump yesterday though, and it's only 3 months old. Was getting a bit tired and my feet slipped off the pedals mid-air, cranks started rotating and I couldn't get my feet back on before landing. Took the whole impact with my ass, luckily managed to keep from crashing though.

WTF I'm pretty sure I'd posted this already. Maybe forgot to hit "submit" before I browsed away.
Anyways I'd been feeling compelled to try a clipless setup. Went relatively cheap for my first foray into it, just in case I didn't exactly love it. Went the ATB / 2-bolt route, as opposed to getting full-on, PRO, roadie gear, cause it makes more sense for stop-and-go riding in the city... plus its easier to find cheaper stuff.
Got a pair of Adidas Minrett (which were discontinued in 08 and then rebranded into Mavic cruize, allowing adidas to sell them for twice as much. Luckily, I found the OG's, in my size, for a very reasonable price. yay ebay)
... and am looking at some inexpensive Time ATAC pedals... also on ebay.
Will write back with thoughts once the gear arrives and I've tried it out.

ugh. I shouldn't get drunk and log on to ebay. Recipe for disaster.
I already needed the pedals, and I found some Shimano PD-M520's for a good price, so I bought that. But then, being a drunken fool, I decided to keep browsing and found some Shimano MO76 shoes for $40. Couldn't help myself. Snatched them up as well.
FFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.
Think it's still a good deal though. Just kind of regret going for those Adidas earlier today. Meh. I can probably sell them and break even, at the very least.

^ I've got the same SPDs on my Trek - love 'em - good choice. Got Time Atacs on the Klein - not so slick as the Shimano, but I've yet to find such good mud clearance as with the Times - never blocked once, even riding through peat bogs!

Anyhow, good call on them SPDs.

Ditto, I use 520's on my road bike as well.

Shoes and pedals arrived today. Took it for a spin. Wow. The transfer of power from my legs to the cranks felt so much more efficient. Felt pretty amazing...
Until I fell over before being able to unclip and got a nasty case of road rash on my right knee. FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.

Yeah, I think we've all done that: super-cautious at the start, always carefully unclipping before stopping, then you get cocky and just forget and you're suddenly 45 degrees to the ground and your foot's still in...! I learnt on a pair of Look racing pedals and though they had zero float (= fecked knees) and were heavy and a pain to get in to, at least they always let you out right at the last minute - no falling on my side still clipped in, but some very close calls...

aqua_tek, how are those new shoes of yours? I'm looking for a new pair, currently using Carnac TRS triathlon shoes which are light and rigid as hell, but not really snug or comfortable...
