But for me, I like to work in public parks or deep in the woods when I'm mtn biking for the day, so something like the iPad brings with it come logistical issues in that regard.

Yeah, I never really get that “working outdoors” motivation. Something doesn’t really sit right with me sitting in the middle of nature banging out electronic beats. And the current state of idevice music is good for little more than that (IMO).

The closest I would come to this nature inspired music writing is going to our cabin, and even then it would be about a laptop and small controller.

Imagine if 20 years ago you told producers you would be able to produce a near to commercial quality release with little more than a portable computer, small speakers, and a 2 octave keyboard. They would have told you to go fuck yourself. :)

One of the downsides to doing production for a living is that you're always in the studio. I mean, not complaining, but sometimes I just need to go somewhere else for a bit to do my own music, or at least jot down ideas.

I hear you on the portable aspects being mind blowing, still surprises me at what i can do with a freaking phone :)

Probably a good idea. I have a couple sets of Shure E3's, but I always forget to bring them with me unless I'm specificalyl going to make music. Actually, I've forgetten them a few times then too, doh! :)

I'm using LogiLink USB MIDI Cable, which is the cheapest iOS compatible USB interface that I could find listed here: http://iosmidi.com/devices/
MIDI clock is not channel dependent, so I didn't change it from default. I had clock running from Ableton through RME Multiface MIDI out connected to LogicLink connected to iPad with USB Camera Connection Kit.

Also tried MIDI sync with StepPolyArp app. That one has better timing but is stopping/loosing timing often.

Yeah. Shit. I think that a. iOS does doesn't play nice with these USB to MIDI converter cables - because i can get fairly stable clock sync via wifi with SynthX. I did just find out that the Uno doesn't do clock. :x b. All USB to MIDI cables are SHIT. :x

The only hope I have at this point is with the iConnectMIDI and/or the Alesis iODock.

So, the question remains: Will they work? Are they stable? AND:

technoBox2 is the next version of our hugely popular technoBox adding many asked for features such as dual 303s and drum machines, export recordings of songs and SoundCloud integration. A performance page has been added which allows access to the most commonly used controls on one page. The drum machines now allow you to load your own samples (via iTunes documents). technoBox2 runs on iPad and retina displays with crisp native resolution.

I love technobox, it has an immediacy that makes it really fun. BUT , and it's a big but. No way of getting your acid riffs into any other iApp to make use of them through audio-copy.
So it stays a toy and I wont be upgrading to version 2, because I can't see that there's anything more than shuffled dial positions

Have you asked for it? There are still some updates coming and it already has a record/upload function.
Mike has been pretty responsive to my requests (lock parameters to patterns, GUI improvements, etc..).
There's not much he can do without feedback.

The Fairlight is app is out.

Looks cool. $10

Wait...you have to pay an additional $40 for the serious 'pro' features.

No Camera Connection Kit support (Line6MM and Akai SynthStation are supported). No Core MIDI support.

I'll pass, thanks. :x

Do you know if it can upload the patterns to the VSTs? It would actually be useful synth app for once if so where you could merge what you've done into a proper track.

He's looking into it. It may end up in the next update.
Hopefully with export for the Drum Patterns to ADM as well.
