But reading your quote, it seems you SEND midi to multiple midi channels in kontakt, but the problem is when you want to RECEIVE multiple midi channels from the VST into live...??? external instrument is designed to be able to SEND midi and receive AUDIO on the same ableton track...
Ah dang, you're right there. Hope you figure something out!

ehh, mine has crashed three times already in the first 45 minutes since installing. My PC is generally stable with music software so don't know what the deal is.

It is crashing and I have not yet played patterns or anything, just browsing thru the library and and assigning sounds to pads using the controller. When it crashes it says something about sending a crashlog to NI but I can't find where this file is (if it's there) so I can send it and take a look myself

I'm registering with NI forum now, but wondering if anyone had and ideas, advice, jokes, etc. WHat's the best way to get support from them other than their forum?

Windows vista 64
Maschine 1.5
Fast Track Pro

Beautiful music to my ears! :D

@STRATEGY_510 : Just a thought; have you tried to run mashcine in standalone first? So that it builds up the library? All NI stuff has to be started in standalone first; nature of the beast...

Thanks for responding christian, this is in standalone and I was able to activate, register, etc.

I'll try to grab the exact message next time it happens, but i think it was pretty generic. Again, not doing anything heavy here, just getting started with plotting out a group.

precisely, i don't feel responsible that another company makes a product that satisfies people so much!

and i consider it a positive thing that they get a kick into the bud, they could have listened earlier.

that is all they need to do, NI only cooks with water as well, no magic involved here, but they listen better to users, real users.

that is why the product in the end of the day does not do anything more, it's the WAY they do it, that makes it so much better, incomparably better.

and that by plain and simple listening.

Very true. It seems like forever ago now, I remember using all my profanity that I had saved for the year in reference to NI's product support.

Now my whole setup's revamped with the edition of Maschine, go figure.

For people who'd like to sequence hardware from machine, I've put a live set in monster's thread here:

http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php? ... 5#p1133285

Basically I use a maschine vst instance for each external instrument.
Since the projects are named after the hardware it's easy to pick the right instance from the maschine hardware.
Nothing special, just hacked together from some ideas in the ni forum.

had it for a day, the things that bug me that I didn't know before I bought it are:

- only samples/resamples in 16 bit
- Endless rotaries can't output 14bit midi for hi-res control of anything
- Swing only goes up to 8ths, you can't select 16th note swing (and no concept of groove templates, but I knew that pre-purchase)
- No zero crossing snap in the sample editor/looper

no no no, you also can now use some lofi "engines", so you can go 12 bits or even lower!!!!
do you really need more than 16bits sampling??? 8O
(not laughing at you, just asking)

cheers

Would be nice, especially when my source material is 24bit. Who knows what kind of SRC goes on inside NI's software, but I reckon it's not at the top of their list for accuracy. My Aether reverb quakes at the thought of being sampled at 16 bit. :(

reading the manual here, really nice.
I was wondering how maschine sample capabilites are compared to Sample. Seems maschine can do quite well.
I wonder, when you pitch something, how far can you go ? In Sampler, it seems to be - or + 48.
I ask that cause I like to play with pitch envelopes, and I saw there was one in maschine as well.

36 semitones up and down if i remember correctly
i think sampler has a bit more features, especially in the filters.
but on maschine you are probably more likely to use it's features.

i'm pretty sure it can do 16th note swing, the different NI swing names make no sense to me, i don't know what they mean in 'real' terms.

i usually find that around 25-30% on the settings called 8ths (?) is a good start for house drums.

ps - i'm also wanting a groove quantise feature...
