Out of interest, where you are sweeping the dub,

is that in the feedback loop of he delay?

i.e. can you describe where the eq occurs -

sound source, eq, delay
sound source, delay, eq
Sound source, delay - delay feedback loop, eq - back into delay
I thought the third but IIRC you guys use the live plugs which i don't think will allow for that so, based upon what i was hearing i am guessing the first now. . .

And was the eq positioned on the send or the individual instrument channel?

Hi Tw1nstates, our dub channel has a Simple Delay, followed by an EQ8 (3 bands: hi and low cut, plus sweepable mids) followed a Live Compressor. The "feedback" parameter in the Simple Delay is at zero, the delay effect is full wet, and the feedback happens by using the aux send on the Return channel to send to itself. Thats it. Old school!

I can't help but emphasize the above statement, this is truly magical and incredibly musical. Pitch Black nails trick in their music and it's amazing. think what a dub producer would do decades ago with more primitive equipment, send OUT of the desk and back in. I tried it and sat there for at least 10 minutes listening to a single sound decay and morph in a proper dub style.

if Pitch Black gives a seminar anywhere within a 3 day drive of where you live, ATTEND IT!!!

to anyone with the power to set up a seminar, hire these guys. your only problem will be the dents in the floor from the jaws dropping.

It depends on the size of the venue, for the smaller ones use the limiter or you will be less loud than the DJs, the tipping point is at around 800-1000 people capacity, were there is a proper big rig, you know, lots of bassbins super deep bass, LOUD. That's where you will want the limter OFF most definitely, and there is a real possibility to sound better, deeper, louder, punchier than the DJS

***whiney voice*** yeah... but... that's what I'm saying, if its simply a matter of the volume, turn up the system elsewhere - not in the digital domain of your DAW - don't squash the music. Turn up the input trim to the mixer, or the channel fader, or the master fader, or at the limiting-threshold of the system compressor, or at the output stage of the system-compressor, or at the amps or...

Granted, you might not always be able to do this, and thats the shitty thing that causes me to rant - that PA systems are usually so overly locked-down to protect against idiots who know nothing about proper gain-staging.

One tiny increase of a gain-stage in the proper place, and you will have no problem whatsoever being as loud as anybody else.

Dynamics and volume are two different things; When you squash out all the dynamics just to achieve volume, that's wrong.
