make your list of features now, we'll see what we can do. step sequencers are easy with max/msp. (I'm going to hate my big mouth a year from now.)

I can't stand that forum, soooo much attitude. IMO you can get better, faster help here. also, when I search the interweb for mpc answers I often find single posts on that forum with the same question and ZERO answers. weak.

There was a blog by Just Blaze about how much he hates his. Maybe look into the 1000, 2500, or 4000

PS: I own a 2000 OG
Yes, and Just made a pretty good case for the 5000 being wack in that article.

OS 2.0 was just released and apparently fixed a lot of issues.

can't you import the samples?
it works here importing the sound files into drum racks. they're mostly wav files as far as i can see.
dope library by the way.

Oh sure- you can import the samples themselves. However, you can't import the kits (.mgrp) or the sounds (.msnd) as kits or sounds; you have to load the samples and rebuild them.

I think the other way would be much more useful. Loading battery/kontakt kits in Maschine. I'm not sure how they would do that though, unless the huge kits were spread across the groups in maschine. I'd really like to be able to import battery cells as well into maschine.

Battery import's mentioned as a coming feature in the Maschine FAQ:

http://www.native-instruments.com/newre ... aschinefaq

As you pointed out, importing larger kits would have to spread them out over multiple groups. And yeah, cell import would be nice.

aqua_tek - agreed. if someone hadn't tried the mpc but was dogging it I'd speak up, but otherwise, let people use what they want. I'm so fed up with discussion on "you HAVE TO use blah blah."

oh yeah. I mean, I think it's perfectly fine to suggest someone try the JJOS such as you did, so don't think i'm taking a shot at you. :P They just take it to unbearably annoying levels on the MPC-forums site. It's perfectly normal for people to give their opinion on what works best for them, but the preaching over there is overwhelming. Not to say there's not a lot of helpful info there, though. Pretty good resource in general. I just ignore the JJOS vs. Akai OS rants.

Anyway I'm not denying that i might try JJOS at some point down the line and then kick myself for not having installed it earlier. But right now I haven't felt constrained enough by the Akai OS to warrant shelving out an extra $100 for the JJ.

MPCheads - dumb question, can swing be applied in real time? I thought I had it working like that at some point. I've always been more comfortable programming by hand rather than applying swing, or warp things into a swing I like. TBH I don't use Live's swing either. I can apply swing and assign the Q links to swing and timing but can't get them to change things in real time. I guess we have to apply a swing, try it and hit undo?
I think my roommate mentioned it's possible to change swing in real-time now with the new Akai OS 2.0 on the 5000. Not sure if it's possible on the 2500 or the 1000... at least under the akai os. To be honest, haven't tried doing that yet. So far, I've just used the "apply, try, and undo" method. I may check when I get back home tomorrow.
And it seems i've turned over to the darkside. After much apprehension I installed JJOS. After many hours of tinkering about, I have to say.... GASP!... I LIKE IT! I had to purchase the license to the full-blown OS 2xl, since that's the only license available for the 2500, but it allows you to switch between all OS's. Which is a good thing, cause to be honest, I wasn't feeling XL as much as OS 2. Anyways, yeah.... I was skeptical, and approached the new OS with cynicism, but I have to admit, it is nice. Not perfect... has its bugs, but certainly a step up from the Akai OS, in terms of flexibility and workflow.

I have to say, though, if it hadn't been for Stan Steez's "unofficial" manual (which covers OS1, but works for OS2 basics), I would've been totally lost. Seriously, not taking away from mr. JJ's brilliance, but goddamn, to say his own manuals are mind-numbing is a bit of an understatement :|

A for effort

Bunch of oversensitive fanboys.

The MPC forums are terrible. You can't truly discuss workflow and software integration with them without someone flying completely off the handle stating how the MPC is the greatest thing on Earth and there is no way anyone can really sequence on anything else.

btw did you see new Traktor's changelog?

• Maschine Groove Studio integration

Sounds Cool, but who would really care to make traktor a sequencer? maybe even a DAW?

I think you might be looking at it backwards. I see that as meaning you DJ with Tracktor and then use Maschine to layer on your own beats, samples, and one shots. That actually sounds pretty cool.

nope, just exaggerating ;] Layering anything to ready tracks? Not really fan of this - maybe in very minimalistic music... Sounds cool, but c'mon - would anyone buy a maschine for this?

Are you being silly? Yes people would buy a Maschine for this. It's a logical progression. There's been times when I've played drum loops and such over some older tracks that are playing (by older I don't mean 2004, I mean 70's) because it can glue them together quite nicely and bring them in with more current tracks. Heard of remixes?

With Maschine you could create those loops on the fly as well as mute parts to mix it up. Not sure why you don't see this as a useful tool in that respect.
