What's the most productive (music) thing you've done today?
Re: What's the most productive (music) thing you've done today?
tried to come up with lyrics for a track i've already finished composing... the lyrics sucked, but not in a cool, ironic way. They just plain sucked. Gave up for today. tomorrow will probably be the same.

Got the brilliant idea of recording my music lesson on a voice recorder so I'd have a reference of all the theory and crap my teacher throws at me

Ho. Lee. Carp.
I've just spent the last hour learning the MPC500's 'step edit' mode; it is possibly the most sensible, productive thing I've done in...well...a very long time, let's say that! It's genius; so logical. I have a feeling that alot of nasty, noisy drums are going to come out of that little box very shortly.
Hope y'all have had good days.

Well, since we're continuing over the weekend... I got another cover recorded. Stripped on DyNAmic Sequencer and Lemur.

I love that song! Nice sequencer, too. I'd love to get my hands on a Lemur, but I fear that I know so little about Live that it would be completely wasted on me.

Nah. When I got it, I was just thinking "customizable midi controller". Then I learnt Max. And the Lemur grew!logic_user99 wrote:I'd love to get my hands on a Lemur, but I fear that I know so little about Live that it would be completely wasted on me.

See, that's where I'd go with it, too - customize, baby! However, I don't know Max (or Reaktor!) and ain't feeling the 'growth' so to speak. Heh. They sure do look the business, though...Lo-Fi Massahkah wrote:

nice use of the lemur there, lo-fi
I tried Max/MSP and liked it at first, since I definitely saw its potential... even went as far as buying it... but i ended up barely using it. I'm one of those who likes to get instant gratification, in a way. I don't have the patience or the attention span to spend hours tinkering away on it.
I think it's an acquired taste. You really have to want and need the extra flexibility.logic_user99 wrote: See, that's where I'd go with it, too - customize, baby! However, I don't know Max (or Reaktor!) and ain't feeling the 'growth' so to speak. Heh. They sure do look the business, though...

I'll +1 that! Heh. I am, generally, far too impatient to dig deep into a bit of gear until the 'instant' appeal has completely worn off.aqua_tek wrote: I tried Max/MSP and liked it at first, since I definitely saw its potential... even went as far as buying it... but i ended up barely using it. High five for instant gratification!

I've been working on my acoustic guitar recording, mic and PodXT settings. wrote out the chords for the "4 chords 40 songs" video for ideas. FWIW... it's handy having them in a list.
Code: Select all
I IV vi IV
C G Am F
C# G# A#m F#
D A Bm G
D# A# Cm G#
E B C#m A
F C Dm A#
F# C# D#m B
G D Em C
G# D# Fm C#
A E F#m D
A# F Gm D#
B F# G#m EI also took a drumbeat .wav and made a midi version of it, I never tried that before, sounds great with both layered at once, and now it's legal to share.
I freaking LOVE track colors and track groupings.
I miss Looper. I'm recording old school with foot stomps on clip launches. an ancient, arcane technique used in the late 21st century, known as the Midi-zoic Era.
edit - oh, and tried to get a Wiimote to be seen by Live, no luck yet.

Re: What's the most productive (music) thing you've done today?
hah yeah. I mean, I'll spend countless hours just making my own patches on my Virus, for example, and I'll painstakingly edit my midi sequences and audio on any specific project i work on. So I do try to go deep into the functionality of my instruments and sequencers. But that's as far as I'll go. I can't find a way to get into actually CREATING instruments and custom effects on MAX/MSP or any other modular environment.logic_user99 wrote:I'll +1 that! Heh. Nah. The camera recording the Lemur is attatched to the mic arm. Up-side-down. That's probably creating that illusion.Tone Deft wrote:you have two right hands?

Spent another hour or so playing with the step editor on the MPC; it's yielding good results, even if my sampling is a bit shit! Really need to max out the RAM to make resampling with effects a bit easier...
It'll get there... eventually.

I spent the morning prepping my live set that I recorded yesterday, updating my website for it, and posting it on various forums. Very well pleased, time for a nap
