Hi

I have been on Live 8 for about 2 weeks now and noticed a definite degradation in performance. I have tried several songs in both version 7.0.16 and 8.0.4 and I find that sometimes the processor use jumps 40% in 8.0.4 which causes the audio to stutter slightly erratically and the green bars to stutter. The main cause I am finding is that if I use a full screen on my external monitor.

I am using a White MacBook 2.2GHz with 4GB RAM and attaching to a 1920x1200 monitor over DVI as a single screen.

Testing between the two versions shows 7.0.16 has no problems with a full screen although the processor use does rise a few %.

Hope you can fix it soon as it's not great!

Thanks
STU

I completely agree with everyone's complaints about Live 8 hogging the CPU. I am running a huge session with many plugins including battery 3, reaktor 5, Oxford Limiter, Reason... In Live 7 (with not plugin windows open) it idles at 3%. with Live 8 it idles at around 8-9%. This is completely unacceptable for performance sake.

However, one thing that I noticed when opening my Battery 3 window in Ableton 8, the internal CPU meter is jumping all over the place from 2% to 6%. In Ableton 7 it sits comfortably at 1-2%. Is there a compatibility issue with some plugins? I would love to know because I want to stay up to date and I love some of the new features but I need to minimize CPU load for performance.

I registered just to add my frustration. I'm UNABLETON to work with version 8. It crashes soooo many times for soooo many different reasons! I just formatted and reinstalled everything just to verify it wasn't my fault but on my mac pro 8 core 2,8 and 8 gig rams it runs like cr4p. I was teaching a guy unableton (that's how i call it now with producer friends) in my home studio and i opened a new proj, dragged an audio clip into it and while i was renaming it and changing color it crasheeeed!!! Not to say if you DARE to change audio buffer from 512 to 128 for live recording!!! Have always to open a NEW SET record into it and copy the stuff back in the other one!!! I learned the painful way to SAVE EVERY MINUTE with unableton! I've also get a serious unableton error with log saved losing 30 mins of work and i was so pissed of i just had to stop working and go for a walk. Hey guys we pay for this software! Come ooon! I have a monster mac that should be UBER performing BUT even the vu-meters are graphically lagging!

Hi folks,

We strongly recommend trying out the latest beta version of Live 8.1.1

http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=132141

These recent betas have fixed a number of performance-related issues.

Also, for those of you having issues with specific third-party plug-ins, please see if your plug-in appears here:

http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=25171

This list is out-of-date, but it's the closest thing we have right now to a known plug-ins issues list.

If you continue to have problems, please let us know.

Best,
Dennis DeSantis

Hi,

nothing fixed here. ableton 8 runs horribly slow while the version 7 demo runs happily fluent. With only very few tracks it already starts stuttering. I'm running a dual core macbook though, no mac pro.
Sadly I can't go back to using any version 7 since I only have version 8 licensed. Please try to find a fix for this soon since live is not usable at the moment for me.

Thanks

I am still having horrible issues with Live 8.1 on a dual core PC laptop. Computer is almost brand new with almost nothing on it, (I use it for school) and Live is taking 4-5 seconds responding to and move I make with the mouse.

***One strange thing I noticed is that the sound output when I play something with my midi keyboard is absolutely fine, it is not delayed or anything, but if I try and play something using my computer's keyboard it is delayed/broken up.

I am trying to give the Abes team the benefit of the doubt but this is rediculous and is making Live completely unusable.

Okay, so I usually don't ever post to forums like this, but I think that I found a fairly strange work around for Ableton Live 8 running so slow. I don't even remember how I figured it out, but I've been using it for the past couple of days and it's been working great. Here's the "fix":

So I was having the same problem that other were having with Ableton being extremely slow and taking an extreme amount of time to respond to clicks and other movement. I noticed that if I waited around a minute or two it would eventually fix whatever was broken, and then would run fine. But I discovered that if you will:

1. Load Ableton
2. Let Ableton sit for just a few seconds, (literally just a beat or two)
3. Then go to the bottom right corner (where you can resize the window) and just resize the window, it starts running normal again.

I have NO idea why it would work, but it does for me. I have to do it every time that I start Ableton. Small sacrifice for such a great program I guess. Try it out, it worked for me, I'm sure they will get around to fixing whatever the issue is.

Hope it helps!

I'm running a Dual 1.25ghz G4... been playing with the Live 8 Demo. REALLY wanted to order the suite this week but... jesus. I dropped ONE instance of Operator on a midi track and it hit 99%. After I cleaned the poop from my pants... I deleted that track. Dropped in 2 collisions and 2 tensions... CPU automatically hit 134%. So... I realized real quick I needed an intel to fix the problem. But now you guys have intels and still have CPU problems... This is crap. :(

anything on this? What macbook pro would I need to run it smoothly? Surely DJ's aren't all running brand new macbook pro's with this are they? Seems silly... :/

It works fine but when I add say 6 MIDI tracks with Sylenth1 on them....CPU usage becomes up to 50 % ??!!
When I bought my Macpro i thought it would be perfect with music production! So what is the deal here??

Thanks
