I have to try it later. I have to go to work now, but I can see what you mean in the photos.
It's just that I seem to be able to avoid this by turning the grid off.

...for the djs:
the new warp mod is not so bad like it looks for the first moments. i first thought it too, but try it out with the transients...i am fast in warping like in live 7 after a view trials!
BUT: the timeline has to come back, no chance without that!
cheers-

Omfg, i just saw the new f*cked up warping system. This alone is enough to keep me from upgrading to Live 8..
There HAS to be an option to switch to the old fashioned warping!!
Live 7's warping was perfect, easy and informative. This new system sucks!
For the time being I'll stick with Live7 for sure.-.-
No way I give up the good old click on the wave and zoom-in function either. Damn..

you haven't even used it yet.
interwebs and opinions...
I much prefer the new way. time is constant, it's the audio that's changing.

Hey since when is time constant? Time has always been relative. That's one of the main points of the theory of relativity.
You can argue with Einstein.
I tried it and gave me headaches in 5 minutes. I didn't ask for undoing the new warping system. I'm happy if it suits you better. I just asked to put in an option to use it the oldskool way 2.. until then i just stick with 7..

Then you're gonna have to keep sticking to L7. The Abes said the new method required a fundamental change to Live's code and having the option to switch between the old a new way is simply not an, eh, option...

lets say with the old method you were taking an acapella and warping it
if you needed extra measures between verses or what ever you would have to jam in extra measures in the pause
in 8 you just pull the beginning of the verse to the measure you want it at, done
this is an argument between warping audio to time or time to audio
to me previous warping always felt unnatural stretching time instead of the audio
the new warping method is the same as the midi piano roll now which is nice
the old warping method is like if in midi you had to change note lengths by dragging the time line to fit and im pretty sure no one would argue for that
