I think he's actually going on about people moving to an area because it's got a good vibe but they take over and end up ruining the atmosphere.Android Bishop wrote:smartass303 wrote:no,Machinesworking wrote: Honestly it kind of made me ill to see the Mission turning into hipster/yuppie chic and becoming less hispanic, but that's life.

explain to me how this sucks worse than living in a GOOD neighborhood that slowly goes to shit as property values decrease and crime goes up?
gentrification: better property values and less crime, oh no!
The best clubs/scenes are generally in areas where people have to struggle a bit. Having too much money leads to complacency, which is one of the reasons why people chase scenes that have a buzz.

it's funny how people believe their word is enough to close a thread. I suppose there's some youngsters on here who think they're always right. hmmm.TITBAG wrote:thread reopened you belgian nonceBoimB son of BoB wrote:At least the people won't go deaf. 100dB is more than enough if you ask me.thread closed.

Thread reopened. If you try to enforce a rule that intends to limit the signal to 96dB, and also suggest a technical solution to do so (which is hard to achieve btw) you'll create a situation that works in favor of super compressed, mid rangy absolutely not dynamic sound. Because this is what will happen. Either as a result of the limiter / compressor in the PA or because the artist will try to squeeze as much out of the PA as possible.BoimB son of BoB wrote:At least the people won't go deaf. 100dB is more than enough if you ask me.thread closed.
Why do you think a good PA system like a d&b C7 top is capable to provide 136 dB peak ? Not because the d&b engineers are deaf idiots, but because the best way to ensure music sounds great and does not hurt your ears is by allowing transients to be loud without clipping.
Most of the time when I go out and need to wear earplugs the PA is not big but operating totally at the limit. If the PA is really big, I can put all sonic energy out of the mid range to the very low end and create a massive impact without killing anyones ears.

Re: one of these days.....
the lesson the Pink Floyd and Grateful Dead roadies taught the world was to use massively HUGE sound systems but only push them at ~50-75% capacity. they sound better and last longer.
only the people that know the size of the room should be giving advice on how loud the PA needs to be. 90dB in my little studio is painful. 90dB in a huge European futbol stadium is inaudible.
either way, it's shameful when art is limited by pointless rules.

Funnily enough, I have an amplifier that belonged to Pink Floyd, it came out of their personal rehearsal studio (brittania row) in the mid 70's.Tone Deft wrote:the lesson the Pink Floyd and Grateful Dead roadies taught the world was to use massively HUGE sound systems but only push them at ~50-75% capacity. they sound better and last longer.

I hadn't used it for ages and plugged it in the other day and the bloody thing fizzed and started smoking.
It's a FM acoustics 800A, it is one of a pair, however, the person I bought it from let go of the other one before I could stump up the money for it. bloody thing is gonna cost a fortune to get repaired.

Re: one of these days.....
I wish more venues had a few of these installed in them. Not experienced them personally, but it looks like low-end impact can be more readily achieved without the higher dB, which (correct me if I'm wrong) sounds like the root of Robert's issue with his desired sound.
