Here's pretty much the same problem on the apple forums - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jsp ... &tstart=50 - looks like it doesn't affect all machines, but mine's one of them... Menu Bar icon allows you to runs scripts, repair permissions, show invisible files etc very quickly.

Zap P-RAM, zap NVRAM and repair permissions usually fixes the odd problem for me.

How do you zap NVRam?

For macbook's, remove power and battery, hold power button down for say 30 seconds. I do it twice to be sure.

Thanks for the link.

I see both the PRAM and NVRAM are reset with the Command, Option, P, and R key reboot. Thought NVRAM was a separate process.

No, it's 100% not that, it's pretty much exactly the bug reported in the apple forum link I posted earlier...
