Dude, you've got brass balls coming here with that comedy material. You really think your dozen posts on the Ableton forum are going to sway the opinions of dedicated users? Sure, some of us drink the kool-aid, but for the most part, this community (both users and developers) does an amazing job of communicating and exchanging ideas in a constructive manner. Your whining is not constructive. If you don't like Ableton Live 8, sell it and use something else. Nobody is forcing you to upgrade. Maybe version 7 is fine for you. Great. Maybe Traktor or Serato better fit your needs.

I really got the impression that you don't know what you're talking about.

Buried as inaccurate.
Inaccurate? Tell me what's inaccurate. I'm not trying to sway anyone's opinions. I'm just flat-out saying what I know about this software, by testing it out to its absolute limits.

Most people would settle for the preset packs and feature sets Ableton comes up with. I expect more from a professional, large-staffed software company. I expect a set of usable, predictable presets to arrive alongside each new feature - otherwise, the feature is largely useless, since you are leaving a large portion of the actual sound design work to your users.

I'm not whining - whiners complain without giving any constructive advice. I have specific issues with Ableton Live 8 that, to me at least, make its $189 asking price seem arrogant at best, malicious at worst. If my tone reflects this sentiment, good. At least I'm honest.

If Traktor or Serato fit my needs, I would use them. They don't. They suck. Narrow-minded software made by narrow-minded people.

The thing that struck me most when I first started using Ableton Live is its session views's complete non-linear nature, free from any pre-existing concepts of time-based sequencing. No. Other. Software. Does. This. Period.

Version 7 is NOT fine for my needs. I need a step sequencer. I'm just pissed that it costs $189, when FL Studio users got theirs for free, a long time ago, so for now I'm going to have to put up with the demo version, and Live 7.

wow, did you expect to say that and retain any sort of street cred?

after all, what kind of professional company expects it's users to use the software for sound design.

Don't get me wrong, I love Ableton, but I have to call it like I see it.
Interesting discussion overall...
I hope it does not sound too sarcastic, but i'm really curious:

As you don't own any ableton products yet at all, what exactly is your motivation behind your abletoniseasy blog and esp. the upgrade pricing discussion instead of the initial pricing?

Cheers,
Dom

I'm not looking for street cred.

Basic presets not only show your users how your software is "supposed" to be used, but they show a discerning professional user that your software can actually be used for professional purposes.

Ableton has largely put this responsibility in our hands. You don't see tech demos ending up on hit charts.

I can't spend all day responding to these posts; my responses will end up being longer than the actual article. PM me your gripes and I'll answer them civilly and publicly. I promise.

its funny how many people feel offended and compelled to laugh when you compare live with fruity loops. but cwnc has got some good points there, and its not an invalid comparison. fruity loops definetly has some areas where it is superior to live. We need a peak controller in live also.

PM you so you can respond publicly? that doesn't make any sense.

I don't need to point out inaccuracies, because others already have.

And most people WILL NOT settle for preset packs and feature sets that Ableton comes up with. That's why people are so excited about Max for Live, or why people like Trackteam Audio and the Covert Operators offer presets both free and for sale. If you're using Ableton Live to be more open minded and creative, then please step outside of the realm of presets.

Also, if you wanted to be constructive, you'd have started here in the Ableton forum, asking for resources or advice. This is THE most helpful forum I've ever come across. I come here if I have questions about ANYTHING (no really, read some of the stuff people post around here).

Are you just doing DJ work with Ableton? For production stuff it's amazing, and for some people it leaves a lot to be desired for DJing. Perhaps this is where it has not met your expectations.

all softwares have areas where they are superior, that's because we want EVERYTHING EVERYTHING EVERYTHING which just isn't possible. ableton has areas where it's superior to other daws, other daws have areas where they are superior. Just use what makes you happy.

i actually bought live 7 purposely instead live 8... live 8 will probably be good in a year or two once they get it smoothed over (hopefully the price too?)...
