Jeez, some people have such a pathetically low opinion of the 'average American' I wonder why they consider them worth saving. Really it sounds like exactly the kind of cynical belief probably held by people like Cheney and Rove. While I agree that the elections of 2000 and 2004 were a disgrace and much that has happened in between is tragic, I think it's become very trendy to bash 'average Americans' as being idiots. How are we supposed to get anywhere with such a negative attitude? Last time I checked McCain lost after taking on Palin as running mate, and we elected our first (half)black president. While I agree things are really messed up here, I don't think the 'average American as idiot' model is going to be the most productive.

I personally don't think the average American is an idiot. However, I do feel that 85% of the time 85% of the people are being sheep, robots, clones, drones or idiots while 10% are feeding them the lies, products, confusion and dreams. In the meantime 5% of the people are realizing this.

I also beleive that in any given situation you or I could be part of that 85% or that 10% or that 5%.

When you turn on the tube and start cheering for the next idol you are of the 85%
When you have to have the APC40 or the iPhone first... you are of the 85%
When you are selling the iPhone or bunk APC40 preorders you are of the 10%
When you are waiting for the price to drop or simply not believing the hype... congratulations, for that little while, you're part of the 5%

Its a deviation of a theory from the Nation of Gods and Earths but I think it illustrates a relavtive point.

We as people can choose to rise above stupid shit.

I think this can be applied to almost anything and doesn't stop with Americans. There are people doing idiotic things world wide. Still, having said that there are people not doing idiotic things.

On your drive to work you could let someone merge to avoid hassle for yourself and others in the moments to come. That would be wise... Then, in the same trip you could answer your phone, slow down a little and piss off everyone behind you.

There are puddles everywhere. A little depth can't hurt. The problem is that lately, in America, its fuckin raining.

Okay, let's turn the unholy "average" discussion into another direction.

What kind of political leader would you prefer? One that's more -or- less intelligent than you? Do you trust in someone's work though his/her capabilities are minor than yours? Would you confide in a person that doesn't fulfill your own standards of literacy?

You can't tell from my way of using the english language? :?:

I'm from Abletonland, a country which suffers from idiocy, too (me included, according to H2Only's canny percentage model). We know what it means to elect minorbrained leaders.

this is the whole problem with palin, and she plays up her "average american soccer mom" image so much that her efforts are completely transparent to anyone BUT the average american soccer moms who are seduced by how deeply they relate to her personality. it's a more extreme version of when politicians, southern-born or not, slip into a heavy southern drawl when campaigning in the south.
this was the appeal of bush - the C students of america saw an opportunity to have one of their own running things, while the A students who stood to benefit from it saw someone who would be compliant to their agenda.

the "average" thing isn't unique to america - check up on the recent history of just about any nation and you'll find the same pattern.
..... . . . . . . . . .

y'know, i had something of an epiphany about voting, especially for president:

If you are primarily trying to make sure your bread stays buttered on the right side, you may not want a leader that can figure out what's going on. You may prefer that some populist-pleaser is in charge, so that you can carry on lining your pockets uninterrupted.

If you are worried about the state of the world, a solid future, sound policy bla bla bla, then you'll consider voting for someone who's got something going on intellectually.

and that is my something of an epiphany.
UTENZIL a tool... of the muse.

You watch Idol, got the iPhone the day after it came out AND pre-ordered an APC40 that you're still waiting for huh? I wasn't trying to strike nerves but illustrate a point. Substitute those products for any other products its all the same.

I don't feel that I have elected any minor brained leaders.
I certainly didn't vote the way the election swung in 04, but on another note I don't think the majority did either.

I would like a leader who would worry about problems at home before worrying about problems abroad. I would like a leader that is able to take back control of our country from money grubbing businessmen with ridiculous salaries that could split their wealth 5 ways and still retire to a dream life. I would like a leader that gives a shit about everyone in our country not just the people that look like him/her, talk like him/her, dress like him/her, and come from the same walk of life as him/her - unless by "walk of life" this whole country is encompassed. I am not naive enough to believe that I (or my son) will ever see such a person actually become that leader and have real control to exercise that perspective unless something major happens. By major I mean total chaos first and then reorganization of those who are left - insert your own scenario.

Who is this leader of Abletonland?

What scares a lot of people is the idea that things like, knowledge of the Constitution, scientific progress, world politics, diplomatic strategies, macro economics and things along these lines, have become less important in picking the leader/co-leader of our country. Like it or not, her popularity is a reflection of how things have become in the U.S. That duo got over 40% of the votes last year. That's scary.

Sorry, missed your question.

Our leader, who will most likely win the upcoming election, promotes the same receipts that led us into this worldwide crisis. Then it's our time (again) to prove the dumbness of a nation (2ct.). ;-)

Can you imagine having sex with her? It would be so politically correct and Christian, she would only do missionary for sure. Anything oral or non vaginal would probably be too much. I think she is retarded and should be kept in a petting zoo but Admit it you would all bonk her!!!
