I'm kinda glad Thomann are delayed, gives me time to come up with some sort of plan.

No, I don't have that one - 2 of the endless rotary push encoders on one of my LV2s are set to 1) move clip focus up and down - push to start selected clip and 2) move clip focus left and right - push to stop selected clip... I can only launch one clip at a time this way but I usually set my quantise to 4 bars for my live set so I can actually trigger several in that time, or I just use scenes!
WOAH that's a major revalation, I had no idea you could map MIDI controls to move the clip focus! Can you do that on any controller or just the faderfoxes?

Hmmm... With the faderfoxes, this control is scripted within Live's native support for the LV2 unit so it doesn't need to be mapped, Live handles it all for you (the LV2 was specifically designed for use with Ableton Live).
With other controllers, I believe you can move the clip focus up and down via midi by mapping a control to the little up/down arrow buttons which show up in the master channel in midi map mode.
However AFAIK there's no left/right equivalent, so I guess the answer's no. Maybe you could do it using Bomes, but I don't really know enough about that to give you a definitive answer.

^^^ i use the 'hardwired' arrow buttons up/down left/right on the keybord, still better then the mouse... Also depending on how many tracks you use you can use the midi mapping for selecting a track via buttons and a rotary for up down...

Thats frickin sweet man, those Faderfoxes increasingly impress me the more I hear about them. I think an APC would probably still fit what I want to do better, but there's plenty of time for me to decide

I bought Albeton 8 about an hour ago, so I'm still reeling off the high from that!

Been wondering what the left right thing was all about... exclusively for Faderfox mmmm.
Here's the deal: I'm not performing live at the moment so the APC is not essential for that, I would like to be a ble to record beats I make by quickly firing of clips (especially with the legato mode) so any multi button/grid thing would sort me out... suggestions?

OK strictly for composing, firing of clips fast & furious:
I was thinking of painting the clip columns from 2 to 9 with diffrent colours and then matching those colours in Ableton Live, so you have a bit of a reference. Actually in one review of the APC-40 it said, you still need to look at the screen from time to time to know where you are... The keyboard has the keys sitting in a grid, which is nice. There is no numpad, but I could get a seperate USB one and have it sitting near my BCF.
Mmmmmmm

Like this... you colour all the keys from 3 to 0 in sets of 4 vertically (I didn't do them all in Photoshop but you get the idea...) Then when you set up your clips for jamming you use the same colours so you have a bit of reference where you are. The only thing is 4 clips vertically is not a lot, the coolest thing IMO is to rapidly alternate (using clip legato mode) between slightly different versions of the same loop to get fill-ins or glitch effects. Only 4 variations (or 3 and a stop button) is not a lot. Hmmm....?

yeah good idea with the colour coded clip launching on the usb keyboard. dont think 4 clips is enough tho - 8 would be minimum i think
dont think its possibble to remap the keys on the fly - they would be mapped to slots so u would have to move the samples around in a live set... unless u have alot of usb keyboards for each song. but i dont think that would work.
i have a faderfox dj2 and ya u can map the knobs to clip up down left right launch etc. but only one at a time..
it would be nice if u could use the two encoders on the fox independantly - say one launching scenes and the other launching group scenes at the same time.. the pads on ma micrkontrol can do the same too - so have that doing stuff also - prolly other group scene launches...
great for live play
