That kind of film recruits little soldiers for our wars.
It's a good movie though, and that to me is more important than whether I like the message. There will always be warrior movies where the military are portrayed as heroic. It would take a huge paradigm shift in human consciousness for that to change. Those movies should at least be fun to watch, or lyrical in execution like Henry V.

I'm with ya on the military fliks and i'll soak em up if it's got the cinematic goods. yer a picky sob like me but there's a lot to appreciate in a flick that goes for it, and i'll meet it halfway as i always do. Good to here ya like it. I may wait a few extra days for the theaters to thin out a bit. It'll be good to see a smart sci fi. I'm racking my brain for the last one i saw. I can't get Alien out of my mind. 1979 ffs.

I just got back from seeing it and I thought it was decent. It's not spectacular, but it's definitely worth seeing.

I gotta disagree with you there buddy, I went to bed 15minutes before the end. Plus it reinforced my missus' opinion I can't be trusted to rent good movies. The trailer was pretty cool.

I mean, it wasn't a super bad ass top quality movie, but for an alien fighting an alien dragon, kept me entertained.

Yeah I was knackered tired and was expecting alot tbh. It was probably better than whatever was on TV at the time. Don't know why they didn't use Ron Perlman more, he was a bad bastard with them two warhammers. Missus just told me at the end (spoiler warning) alien craft come to collect him and he destroys his homeing transmiter when they're just in eyesite and they then leave. Rude bastard making them come all that way.

I must say, most of the movies of this genre are shot elsewhere in the world.
Saw the trailer last week and I must say I'm pretty excited to see it.

D9 is shot in my home country (South Africa), so watching the trailer with all the local accents and scenery is quite interesting for me.
(So used to NY or London, or somewhere else in the world getting done in by aliens etc)

There was a period of xenophobia going down (in SA) not too long ago, so the social commentary (that I could gather form the trailer)
draws quite a parallel with what was happening.
Funny thing is, it's only releasing here the end of August (28th).
I'll just have to wait and see.

Ok, I was disappointed. Too many story elements, too convoluted, moved too fast, too jerky (don't sit close) too cliché in spots, no elements of terror because of the fast pace and the sequel set-up was somewhat weightless.
