One thing I have done on occasion is to build a performance instrument -something that I can work with in the same way in the studio & on stage. Just like a traditional instrument, it retains the same shape in either mode. Makes playing the thing more intuitive & familiar. My advice to anyone who want to try this: invest in a good stand or two, & some self-adhesive velcro.

I agree that being able to change position is a very good thing. I now have stations for standing up, sitting in a chair, & sitting on the floor. Ah, variety!

Re: lets destroy the studio
thanks Subfunk
I should explore this hybrid solution myself.
For the electribes part, I feel a strange need to get back to "real" machines (I still have my RM1X), because it feels much more like a "real" instrument, and sometimes it is just cool and refreshing just to play, not tweaking parameters with a mouse or a midi controller... I'm soon getting a juno 2, and I KNOW I'll pass some times just playing with it, and then, I'll need to be standing up!
Rogue Scunt : VOLCANO !!!! what is this translucid bag for??? (I know, this isn't thie topic, lol ) Anyway your setup seems really playable too. Good one.
cheers

Exactly! Environment is important imo. This gave the push i needed; i have been plannig to redecorate the room and i can think about redesigning the layout as well. It was my bedroom and the room meant for my studio is now my sleeping quarters.SubFunk wrote:yeah, i don't know how it is for others, but as my home studio is more for writing music then only mixing, recording, etc. the whole feel of the environment is from utter importance to me, i need to feel, cosy and well, just good sitting there... otherwise only dark music comes out of me.
but i like it funky.
The pics of the low level studio look fantastic and would be a great environment to work in. of course it would cost thousands to design and build (which i don't have

As absolutely drool inducing as Vladislav's studio is, I would feel like such a pretentious cunt if I had to work in there...oblique strategies wrote:Here's one of the nicest studios I've ever seen:

Great post... I miss my studio setup and have currently reduced it to a more portable setup (all my other stuff is in storage for now). Still, sometimes it's great being in a different surrounding because it does get old quick when you look at the same stuff over and over again.

Re: lets destroy the studio
I rearranged to the studio quite a bit today and feel much more comfortable in it. Turned the focus of the studio away from the computer, where I used to have all my favorite controllers right in front of the computer on an L shaped desk I moved all my favorite controllers to the other side of the desk and raised some stuff to inspire standing. I dig it a lot.
by the way, what the hell does vladisvlakivov delay have in that studio up there? I can make out the roland space echo and a nord lead (or maybe wave) but other than that I have a really hard time recognizing anything in that room. did I see a korg ms2000 rack?

he is having a tea, apparently. the studio also seems to be very nice for having a nap while all the machines do feedback loops.Johnisfaster wrote:

and someone should show him how to change the thermostat actually, cause he really shouldn't need that scarf when he's indoors...
