The same limitations still apply. But there may be another way into Live that only recently has become explorable. That would be the remote control input. Its still unclear what this part of the API actually allows, but as far as I know there are no MIDI filters like on MIDI tracks.
Thanks for confirming the issue. Hopefully there is a solution with M4L.
