I'd start a new thread on that, because really, I "care."

I was going to write a lot of stuff, but it boils down to this:

The catastrophic aspect of the global warming scenarios is where lots of polar ice melts and sea levels rise. So, if you want a climate-related catastrophe, melting a lot of polar ice is your go to. However, you don't need global warming to melt a lot of polar ice. You need polar warming. So if it is a climate-related catastrophe we fear then what we should be worried about is polar warming.

But the catastrophe cited here does not seem to be climate-related:

My problem with this debate is that global warming has become increasingly dogmatic. If you don't totally and completely agree with Al Gore and the scientists on his side of the debate, you are automatically a horrible human being who wants to eat the brains of live baby polar bears.

That said, I generally agree with those who say we are contributing to global warming, however I don't like to set these beliefs in stone, that's idiocy. It's a theory, not a fact.

I am not convinced man has anything to do with with global warming. Though I really like the idea of cleaner energy and finding better ways to do anything. I think a cleaner environment has no cons to think of, except maybe stimulating growth of population or longevity of individuals. On the other hand I cant wait till they start drilling for oil off the coast of florida. My salary will shoot over 100k a year. Fuck all you nasty orange people from jersey and you fat old twat new yorkers that cant get enough of our beaches.

the cap and trade system is basically a blow job to the worst most environmentally destructive companies. it allows large scale carbon producers to trade and buy while doing nothing and passes huge "imaginary" costs onto joe public. basically, blackmailling governments about how expensive energy will become in order to be granted huge handouts.

The atmosphere is closed and we burn/release billions of tons carbon dioxide every year which is forever. At this moment, we don't know how to change that fact. We better get moving now or be a bunch of ignorant medieval assholes. Btw, the world population has doubled in the last 40 years.

to the op: yes, it's a fact.

why do some say it's a myth? because humans are very bad at accepting their own faults.

I think to be fair the research done on it has been done on such a pitifully small scale that either could be true. The amount of data they have collected is the equivalent of basing someone's entire personality off half a millimetre of the toenail of their little toe. The fact is Global temperatures ALWAYS fluctuate, has man added to this? who knows, nobody. But it cant be stopped now, so we might as well spend the billions we were going to spend on prevention on preparing instead.. Once civilisation has collapsed in a few decades, the earth will soon correct herself and possibly bring about the evolution of a another new dominant and possibly intellectually superior species to us

And where are you basing this FACT from, A fact is undisputed, Please explain why the romans could grow vineyards in Scotland or why Britain had a mini ice age a few centuries ago? Your basing FACT from a few decades of record keeping in a world more than 4 billion years old. Talk about human arrogance.

CO2 maybe/maybe not conceived as a myth but pictures like this are an eyeopener for me:

http://myamazingfact.blogspot.com/2009/ ... -live.html

Over population is far far more an important issue.

We could all have houses and cars powered by wind or via fantastic developments in science but,

with the planet currently doubling in population every 40 years (not a linear figure either) we might as well get used to living in our own shit. (just like the pics!)

The population of the world will halve within the next 20 years.

Why?

Because fossil fuels are running out, and fossil fuels ARE our food. America is a dustbowl without the litres of oil based fertiliser piled into it every year. Without Oil, the human population will naturally decrease through starvation and war. So if i were you i'd get learning about crop rotation and other skills that the younger generations will need to learn from us.
