I walked out of ET pissed off at how shitty the movie was with the rest of my family wiping the tears away and
calling me heartless though. I can't stand a simple plot with an overbearing message, go figure?

Kudos to people who like it and had fun, all I'm saying is some of us don't have a very thick stomach for smarm.

I can't see how anyone into techie stuff (or psychadelic drugs ) couldn't walk out of this amazed.

Just saw it in IMAX 3D and I really enjoyed it. The special effects were great. I thought the story line was a little too predictable, but still enjoyable to say the least.

Movie wise, I have to have a great plot, only exception is comedy.
Also, I as a rule cannot get into anthropomorphic 'natives' type characters in big time production movies. When a movies relies on huge archetypes like those in Avatar, it's hard for me to enjoy the CGI and ignore the blandness of the 'message'. Like I said though if you can get into it great, I'm just saying those of us who do not are not 'haters' etc. it's a personal aversion to inane dialog.

I have seen 4-5 movies in the past two years in real 3d. I cant stand it, headaches and eye fatigue galore. I will never go to another one again. I am really looking forward to seeing this movie in regular format though, I am going to see it on sunday morning at 945am for $5.50(I am becoming a cheap ass)

My head is still hurting from the 3D experience...


But this shit was worth it. Oh so worth it.

Did you see it at the King of Prussia IMAX theater?

Yep, or the pure scale and spectacle, some scenes left me feeling winded. Not to mention Pandora as the best screen realisation of an alien planet so far.
The over the Top Stephan Lang is great.
(SPOILER ALERT) The pushed the braveheart button too much for me and I find this hero figure shit annoying. Its like they escape being colonised by the money grabbing corporations only to be colonised by super awesome Jack Sully who is now the coolest dude on the planet because Pandora has no history of rousing battle speeches.
There's a section of the crowd for this film who will totally identify with Sully during it and leave the cinema feeling like they are the king of Pandora (I heard one 12 year old saying breathlessly "That was the best movie ever") and for them this will be the best film ever, but if for whatever reason you sidestep this tactic the effect is smaltzy.
BUT...I did care about the Naavi and their planet. And the bottom line is that anyone spending 300 million plus on Sci Fi movies gets my support as long as the re-coup so it’s not a waste of money and it opens the possibility for Ian M Banks books going to film. I'm going again today, its too much for one sitting.
