I don't see why it wouldn't.

Sorry if this was already answered, but does maschine work well just as a controller for drum racks like my Akai ? and how do you find the sensitivity / feel of the pads ?

Unfortunately, the controller templates for Live won't work with Live 6 (which is why there isn't one for that version); you don't have the API hooks that you do in Live 7 and 8. However, you can of course use it as a normal MIDI controller with Live.

ok then, too bad.

but does the mackie control emulation work, at least, with live 6 or is it the same???

cheers

(anyway I'm trying to buy live 7, and will surely manage it one day, and I for now don't really need to control live with th maschine, I got enough controllers for the live shows)

Unexpected surprises in the upcoming 1.5 update:

New effect algorithm: Grain Slicer
New "Add to Sample Map" function in browser
New "Copy Sound without Note Events" option

I wonder how this grain slicer is different from the grain effect they already announced coming?

edit: looks like this is the same effect that we've already seen mentioned.

first tests made,

and I gotta say there are some great one shot drum samples in there!! (loving the kicks and snares, even if I just tried 3 or 4 of each!!)

little question :

I'm used to use the 16-pads matrix (padkontrol) from the 1st upper left to the last bottom-right, but it seems everything in the maschine begins from bottom-left to upper right...

-why? (is it so natural? I guess it's the akai mpc style?)
-is there a way to invert that way of beeing?

another strange-but-negligible point :

after installing, registering, I went into the update section (had maschine 1.0.3 installed), and there was NO 1.1 update available. I had to download it WITHOUT the NI center, on the NI site downloads section... ? bizarre...

now running 1.1, all is OK.

just a little another slightly-annoying remarks:

1) loading a sound while playing a pattern may appear some (little) clipping in the audio
2) NO SAMPLE PREVIEW????? have to load the sound to be able to listen to it???? is there a "preview sample" option coming in a next update???

anyway, just 2 hours with it and I'm in love.

Same immediacy, feeling as when I was programming everything in my good ol' RM1X...

just needs a bit of time to get used to the hardware menus and shortcuts, but I'm sure it's a really little bit!!

Cheers

Yeah, everything is bottom left to top right, not sure if you can change that behavior for Maschine software control. Sequences go that way as well. It makes good sense how they set up their kits as far as ergonomics go, but I guess top down wouldn't be bad either.

As for sample preview, I don't know of a way to preview from the controller, but there is quick load next and previous, and I think you can revert. There is sample preview in the software browser though.

understood:

akai are japanese, they read from right to left and down to up... eeeeh, right to left, but up to down...

well, no, I'm wrong

well, I'll be used to that mentality in no time, I'm sure!

cheers

Yup, it looks like the same grain stretch effect that was first announced with 1.5 and then retracted when they thought they couldn't get it done right in time but it looks like they've done it after all. NI is kicking some major ass with Maschine development. They must be pretty fired up from all the positive feedback they got from the 1.1 update and just the overall enthusiasm for the product in general.

yes it's astonishing!! I NEVER saw such a great post-release development in any kind of commercial domain!!

when it comes to 1.5, 2.0... will they provide free or cheap plastic layers to put on the maschine to have all new options and shortcuts directly visible on the hardware??? so many new options are being added... it's incredible!

anyway, I still have lots of times getting used to the present parameters!

just trying the sampling and slicing options now with some extreme metal samples... wow

BRAVO NI!!!!!

(and thinking that when it was released, I just thought "what's this new crap??? well, they can't compete with any existing product such as live or mpc's... and now I have full-fun times wih the maschine just as standalone app!!!!

when the pattern editor and midi functions will compete with live... I'm pretty sure I'll don't use live anymore for the composition process, using live just for final arrangements and mixdown, and, of course, Live shows)

Cheers

thats what you say now but live is sooooogooooood it's the most unique piece of software out there. whenever I get something new whether it's hardware or software somehow Live either enhances it or it finds a way to be enhanced by live so i constantly end up thinking thoughts like 'ok this is fresh but if I used such and such like this and combined it with live then it would be .....oh shit!'
like routing your machine groups into different tracks in live and crossfading between them

I'm sure the group sex with maschine and Live will be REALLY BRILLIANT, and I'll never let down live for the live shows,

was just saying that for composition / squetching, maschine standalone is the dope, then plugin it in live to arrange, and mixdown will be necessary for me,

as for using my hardware synths I guess, live being much more flexible, with all its routing and sidechaining abilities. (but I heard people were able to sequence their hardware synths within maschine...)

Cheers
