Student - retarded analogy. multi-touch screens have been on the horizon for a LOOOONG time. the only drawback is that there's no tactile interface, so the user ends up 'email checking' more than they would with something like a BCR or BCF (for example.)

so, what would you rather see?

Actually, this raised '3D' screen tech that Apple's been supposedly working on sounds interesting. Making a previously flat glassy surface actually give tactile feedback.

the only thing a touch screen is good for is to get rid of the damn mouse...
however... it will open up doors to other 'expressions'...and maybe a more streamlined work for you vs.computer...
I only see it as a replacement for the mouse...

What blows me away is all you guys saying it's not that great etc. aren't thinking at all about Live and Session View obviously?
All clips in all slots instantly "mapped", touch/fire everything in Session. Not to mention if you aren't fond of presets in soft synths.
Especially working with third party synths, no mapping to only 128 parameters etc, instant editing of any parameter of anything much quicker than the mouse after maybe an hour of getting used to working with the screen.

I'm much more of a synth player than keyboard player, in the sense that I like mod wheels etc, and assign sounds to use as such, previewing the effect of a parameter will be instantaneous. Zebra's XY controllers are now perfectly usable without mapping or four joysticks etc. The list is seriously endless.. all the Launch pad/Monome/APC etc. type controllers will be mainly for show, as it will take longer to use them and they won't cover as many bases. It's crazy to me that people pooh pooh this??? I would easily go back to a 2.19Ghz machine or less for that kind of hassle free control. Hope that someone releases a 12" version though, 10" is a little too small IMO.

i'm nt saying it doesn't have it's place, I love my kaosspad, I'm just saying that it's place isn't everywhere, I know what virtual tactility feels like and it's just my opinion but for me it's not musical, I'm sure it's not the screens fault it's just a screen. I'm nust not a fan of doing everything one way, having one feeling associated with everything so if I had that touch screen stanton thingy for turntables and a touch screen control surface for mixing and a touchscreen midi controller and touchscreen efx like my kaosspad all that stuff would drive me nuts, and on top of that if I'd have to use an iphone but I know there are folks out there who won't be satisfied til we're making music like tom cruise in minority report but when that time comes I'm gonna be like dude in logans run

So the Lemur obviously isn't your cup of tea.
This would be a Lemur without an extra computer, if it had USB then there would be no limitation to the amount of hardware controllers you could use as well, seems like a good thing, and again, I can't for the life of me figure out why it's seen as not a big deal?
Personally I hate assigning controllers to things in the 'moment'....

The tablets are better than the Lemur in some respects. Like uhh, being able to control everything.

But then, the Lemur's GUI is made for what even a stumpy set of fingers could control. A computer isn't necessarily gonna be so accommodating and 12 inches is sounding really bad. Also, since it's a contained computer in its own right, you're either gonna be looking down at your monitor or reaching up with your hands. Either one is a crummy deal. Not to mention not being able to see through your hands, and transparent hands probably won't be around for a while.

But no, the Lemur isn't my cup of tea.






P.S.: How do you right click, middle click, forward and back button click on a touchscreen?
This sounds like a "one button mouse" kinda deal.
