Come on y'all... AKAI knows that 'touch screen' is about to hit.. we will be designing our own controller in m4l type programs..

Can't blame them..

yeah, but all I see is Serato being played through Live. they gotta give us the ability to scratch clips, it's been discussed for YEARS!! PLEASE!?!?!?!?

agreed DJs probably not needing a cross fader, but I only DJ to myself. I'd think DJs would have long been used to using the channel faders and having multiple channels playing at once.

The details of the APC 20 really fall short. I'd say "come on Akai you can do better" but being a long time MPC user... I regularly feel let down by this company. Still waiting on an OS update for the MPC 5000 since a year ago.

A new User Mode enables you to use the Clip Launch buttons to control instruments and the Drum Rack.
Wonder where "the leaders in controllers" got that idea?

the APC 20 feels like a remix where you do nothing but strip two instruments out. :(

which is fine by me if those instruments are a saxophone and any form of guitar shredding.

anyway the diminutive size of the apc20 doesn't bother me as much as the missed opportunity to give users a better button matrix. by better I mean 8x8 instead of 8x5

OK, im feeling even more secure about my APC40 purchase now. Looks like they are going to fool around for a while. What a surprise.. :)

Who wouldn't want a Launchpad instead? Im possibly getting 2.

...wait... is the 20 perhaps meant to add to the APC 40?

makes me wonder what their designers are thinking...
it just looks weak. plus their pricing policy in europe is TAKING THE PISS; until they sort that, akai can go fuck themselves.

In some ways, I just feel, "cool, more choice", but I can see why people are disappointed.

I know the AKAI guys will be aware of all these negative responses, but it's too late now. The product is done. It would have been great to see AKAI ask the community to respond to a couple of proposed designs in advance.

Then again, people use Live in so many different ways. I'm sure this will be perfect for some peoples needs, presuming it is priced competitively.

Hard to see it making much of a dent in Launchpad sales though.
Launchpad + MIDI-twiddley-box = fantastic IMO.

Maybe Novation are also watching. Your move guys. 8O

ya, true, but I doubt anyone would have gone "please, please, PLEASE give us an 8x5 button matrix instead of 8x8. After all, 8x8 would make so much sense. 5 is a much less musically appropriate number especially for electronic musicians therefore that is how many rows you should provide to ensure it's awkward as fuck to use the button matrix for anything else"

I still for the life of me don't understand why they went with 8x5...morons!
