every genre gets hot and then cools off after a while, it seems like a natural evolution. but, it also seems to me that genres live and die way faster these days. maybe because of increased communication of methods and distribution, or maybe the ease of making tracks, dunno. dubstep hasn't jumped the shark though.
i love how it's changing, being a dub techno fan since the early days, i loved when dubstep started to converge with techno. the great thing about how genres steal from each other is how many ways between moods it sets. it gives djs so many paths they can travel if they choose. i love playing sets that jump around a lot in style and rhythm, while maintaining a constant theme. so, throwing in minimal, rhythm & sound, dubstep, mvo trio, and lee perry. djing in live is amazing for this, the ability to match up anything you want to, opening up so many possibilities compared to our beloved vinyl...
but, the whole diving deep into a sound is much appreciated too. i personally am tired of seeing djs have auto-sync and mixed in key set up, and just play whatever they just bought on the beatport top charts... but, there's djs to please the dancefloor, and then there's djs to please the heads.
it's doubtful that starting as a dubstep producer now is gonna get you recognition because yeah, there's a lot of folk out there already. but, bass music is here to stay, so learn what you like, adapt it to your own, and do things wrong until they're right.
thanks for the vids for those who've posted.
my 2 cents on dubstep bass workflow. try out synths until you find one you like, learn that synth in depth, and just keep jamming out ideas until you're happy. it's not what you have, it's how you use them and what you're trying to say. seen that rusko vid when he's all "this snare needs more splash, so i can just take my mic and go PSSSSHHH" too funny, but it makes the point.

I watched some of the videos. Most artist are using a mouse when it seems like dub would work best with controllers. I end up using a mouse even with APC40 few inches away. Sort of like a bad habit?
