the 'funk' line of discussion is painful to read.

there's loads of fresh new stuff happening,
its just hard to find because of the amount of crap still being signed to big labels

What I'm looking for mate. Thanks.exper wrote:For me:

I'm sure there's more, but theses are among my most frequently played. I'm kind of glad the halfstep, wobble stuff seems to have worn out its welcome. It quickly became the new techstep DNB, where everything sounded the same. IMO of course...

Double ironic, I'm just an armchair critic of vanilla electronic music that tries to emulate funk.dum wrote: that's ironic considering your funk discussion.

You're an armchair critic of armchair critics, and none of this has fuck all to do with dubstep, think about it.
God I hope so.Tone Deft wrote: they had arms up their asses, not their heads.

Hoping for more dubstep or similar favorites of people to pop up.

Re: Who is leading the way in Dubstep in 2010?
I really like all kinds of dubstep and I really love "wobble" when it's used creatively. It's not all Rusko, Nero etc. (even though some of their older tunes are pretty good). People who right off anything with "wobble" as unintelligent are closing themselves off to some incredible music and the same goes for people who think it has to "wobble" to be dubstep. There are amazing examples and awful examples of both. Dubstep is about interesting rhythms, melodies and sounds, as long as it has some or all of those things combined with innovation then it is dubstep (as long as it's between about 130 -150bpm).
People I'm feeling for 2010 are:
Starkey - The man's an absolute genius, check both his albums for Planet Mu.
Slugabed - The guy is insane, check Ultra Heat Treated on Planet Mu. He does stuff at hiphop tempos as well as 140ish

iTal Tek - Brilliant new album Midnight Colour again on Planet Mu (bit of a pattern emerging)
Propatingz - Check his tune Wickedest Sound. Not for everyone but if you like big basslines and lots of edits then you'll love it

Cardopusher - A Venezuelan living in Spain producing dub-influenced dancefloor type stuff. He used to do breakcore and it shows

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LX_eeFwyMI
Rossi B & Luca - Watch this! Smashes up dancefloors everytime
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0YfPrEDAR4
As for labels:
Seclusiasis - Loads of great artists, Starkey, BD1982, Raffertie, Kotchy, 6Blocc and many more. Not strictly dubstep with hiphop, house and a lot of other influences
Black Acre - Really forward thinking and varied, everything from electronica to future garage to twisted dancefloor destroyers. Check Akira Kiteshi, Dark Sky, Fantastic Mr Fox (Check the SBTRKT remix of Sketches - incredible), Von D and many more
Planet Mu - Doing more for experimental bass music then any other label. Consistently outstanding output. Nuff said
As for trends, future garage type stuff seems to be getting bigger and bigger, but some grime producers are starting to get recognition for their instrumentals so I think we will see more people like Terror Danjah and Rude Kid getting bigger. Check Terror Danjah's Gremlinz album on Planet Mu.

lots of interesting suggestions though, guess that's the one upside to reading a forum where DJs posts.

not a big dub step fan but I've always liked the way they build tension by playing off the beat.
