To go back to the comparison of expecting musicians to play tiny versions of their instruments, I don't think it's like asking a grown ass man to play a kid's drum set. A better comparison would be between a drummer playing a drum set and somebody banging out beats on a MPC. Different skill sets but with a little practice both can yield the same results. If somebody doesn't have any vinyl or CD spinning background then they could possibly pull off the same end result using different techniques and software features. The new Traktor sample decks look like they would be great for juggling and manipulating sounds.
I gotta think about that one, I like the analogy cause it makes me look at it a little differently. I* think the difference though might be that the ceiling for growth on the mpc is a bit higher as in more headroom, the mp starts off so basic like a turntable but you can take it so far, I'd say that the mp has a better workflow environment than this new traktor deck. I think maschine is the fault, it's really brought me to the conclusion about features and I think we've got all the features we need now of course features are like drum samples and we could always use more but these days I'm really focused on the workflow so now it's the first thing I'm checkin on new gear, the s4 controller looks like it's got so much shit on it feature wise that I really hope it feels better than it looks to me because I could really use something like this for doing computer blends and shit, ableton is the life but sometimes it's too involved when you want to just put something down real quick

I feel like I've been participating in way too much pre-release web speculation as of late.

I will agree the controller looks a little crowded but that's also because Traktor has a lot of functions, functions that up until this controller can't really be adequately accessed without some sacrifice or shift function memorization. But if you take Maschine into consideration I'm sure NI did a bang-up job of designing things in a way that makes a lot of sense and is optimized for performance and workflow.

absolutely, it's because of maschine that we all know Ni can do it, look at maschine and then look at the apc-40, who would have thought that ni would kick akai of all peoples butts in this area of design, maybe if they would have added even 3 more inches it would have made a big diff on the s4 controller imo, but yeah none of us have one yet, maybe it'll be great, besides shifty looks uncomfortable no matter what he's using, a dmc champion he is, but it's a different thing all together watching dj craze use ni stuff

why would you really need it any bigger? it's already larger than the Xone DX, VCI series and just about every other controller of it's type aside from the Xone 4d or the ns7. it'll probably won't fit in the Big Namba, which is a great reason to buy the custom case. this thing is pretty big. almost beyond portable IMO. from the specs, it's larger than a rackmount mixer and considering most 4-channel dj mixers are 12", i think we'll see once more videos come out that it's got plenty of room.
