Like I mentioned earlier, it's hilarious that the US and other countries are treating wikileaks like a single phenomenon that they can squash. If it falls hundreds will rise, and that means even less chance of stopping potentially "harmful information" (military targets etc.) from being published.
Jullian goes down and hundreds more rise from the ashes.

Their best hope is for Nixon syndrome to take over completely. So no matter how fucked up our government is and how much they know about it's transgressions, people can tolerate it because they accept it as normal behavior. Until it hits them with economic or societal violence and turmoil.

Here's a bet that Nixon syndrome and unbridled patriotism will win out in the end.

Oprah and Angelina Jolie have already fixed the vast majority of Africa through a highly successful "bringing shit to your attention" campaign.

It pains me to do so, but I have to agree. Fact that US media seemed more concerned with the villain appeal of Assange than the contents of the cables is enough indication of the future direction of this kind of coverage.

The coverage is always the same, unless public outrage is involved, anybody who paints US transgressions as what they are is labeled a villain by the media. It's not any mystery really, the people who own the media and most who work for the media in positions of influence on how events are portrayed are rich or upper middle class, they have a vested interest in painting the current actions of their "team" as right, or at the very least "understandable" given the circumstances etc.
The people who rock the boat are painted as bitter etc. by those who are profiting off the boat, not a big mystery.

Honest question. Can any of you somehow manage to live a fulfilling life without concerning yourself with this shit?

Of course we can't have everybody having that attitude because we need the illusion of checks and balances, but governments and corporations have always done selfish and evil things and will continue to.

I don't need to know any of this stuff, a lot of people seem surprised that the world is run by bastards, it was ever thus and will continue to be,if you think you can change things you're in for disappointment, you just have to hope your bastards are bigger bastards than their bastards , that's life.

I think I'd audition with the scene where he almost steps on a bug but then quickly jumps back repulsed by himself when he realizes that stepping on the bug is symbolic of the US government stepping on equally innocent and helpless human beings.

Either that scene, or the one where he breaks his arm patting himself on the back.

Ok, but I get to audition for the Swedish prostitutes scene... Whether it be a courtroom re-enactment describing what he allegedly did or where actually does it if he did. dibs!

2000 years ago governments publicly fed people to loins for steeling a piece of fruit. In the last 1000 people were commonly world wide publicly hung and guillotined. Less than 150 years ago it was perfectly legal to own slaves. Less than 50 years ago it was common to have white only drinking fountains in the states, not to mention South Africa. No matter how much people try to paint it out otherwise, mankind as a whole is slowly evolving away from violent reprehensible acts and becoming more enlightened. Sure there are pockets of insanity and intolerant assholes, but that's focused on repeatedly because it sells advertising.

You're just proving my point about western countries, especially those of us from the USA or UK not wanting to talk or examine our own dirty laundry because it's painful and goes against a feeling of it being a level playing field. Truth is whomever is on top will act a fool and should be called out on it. Whining about it, which IMO saying that "all countries, all power is selfish" etc. is, does nothing to further the conversation, it's like not saying anything at all, except exposing your own fealings of guilt. Otherwise why bother posting in these threads at all?
Face it, it upsets you that your own country is continually making an ass of itself on the world stage. Me, I'm not emotionally invested in countries, just people.

As far as my feelings of guilt or being upset by what our government does or did? Pfft. There's things the government does that I don't agree with but I also didn't push the GO button on it and haven't been in any position to stop it. I also didn't vote these clowns into office and there's plenty of high ranking powerful officials that nobody votes into office. They're just appointed, and again, not by me. My head and hands are clean.

Also I'd like to quote many of our athletes and celebrities who probably have more influence on our group think than politicians. "I'm not a role model".

But mostly I'm here to be the voice of the millions upon millions of "who gives a shit" people on this planet who aren't members of this forum and therefor can't be heard. Granted, it's not exactly following the typical debate format but life isn't fair. Just read the wikileaks!
