Thanks for the pointers, will look into those. My drum approach is part of my search for a consistent approach, I like the electronic manipulation over the acoustic drums, even its been done before, the thins is to try and get the balance right.

On drums: I still like to bust drums up some, I just think the beat repeat way is too obvious. Yes, like most things there is a balance to find.

Is 'beat repeat' too obvious in an electronic producer (Oooo, I know that Lives beat repeat) kind of way or a 'normal' listener kind of way?

Don't know for sure... I'm certainly not in touch with any kind of audience, so it may well just be me.

I dont think most audience members have a name recognition of "Beatrepeat", but they will most likely think of it as that weird sound which was the fashionable thing to put in a track in 2005. It was the cool one prior to AutoTune. I'm sure its still fine to use. hell people were still putting a sax break in their middle 8s all the way up to 1998, at which point saxy session mullet man was replaced by "middle 8 rapper for hire" as a way to join two tediously white song halves.

Sorry about the derailment. No insult intended to anyone, just a general observation about the popularity of buffer-effect music .

Late for the show. Long thread to read and interesting to listen to!
Personally I do not try to emulate some of my favorite artists but I can
find here and there traces of what I know I like about them.
Sometimes when I got no idea I listen to a new artist and try to get
some inspiration. Is that to be considered 'emulation' or what?

I've really enjoyed looking and listening to this thread, some great stuff being produced. For me origionality comes when you bring something truly personal to a creation, something that is only arrived at through ones own unique set of circumstances. Most of my time is spent painting and drawing landscapes around where I live, and perhaps my most origional composition was born out of listening to the sound of pencil on paper and being inspired to record the sounds I was hearing and making somthing out of it. It may well be my most origional piece, but it is probably the most difficult one to listen too!

tbh, I had no idea buffer-effect music was ever popular, it certainly passed me by, but now I have beat repeat...I am damn well using it.

Good point Killingtime, as long as its personal thats where the originality comes from I guess.

absolutely. how we put our influences in to practice can definitely lead to unique results which i think
has been shown by much of the music posted in this thread.
