I don't know if this is good advice. When the economy collapsed a few years ago and my future income pool dropped by more than half I did this. I thought about working at Fry's as a store greeter - at least I could buy some hardware for cheap. No one would hire an ex-geek who hadn't worked in 10 years or knew Juice from Java, even if they still quote lines of code from the BSD TCP/IP kernel.
The trouble is that it's too easy to sink into depression - you're the only one who will pull you out of that. It took me a long time to get out of that rut.
Eventually I started working on some ways to sell things and make audio stuff and that got me through it.
It's true that allowing yourself to be depressed can reinforce depression. I'm not suggesting that. On the other hand, allowing yourself to grieve a loss, and allowing those feelings in a conscious way, and even for a specific period of time, can give you more control over the possible long term depression that sometimes follows difficult times in your life.
You are also right about being in this by yourself. That's why it's good to have support, friends that can give you a different perspective, or a therapist who can help you through things.
Or beats could just fuck some whores and be done with it. That'll set him right.

Agreed. It's the only way forward.

Eventually every thread devolves.
Avoid the internet and TV as much as possible.
I'm out of here.
That's my best advice.

Don't you guys know how unjustifiably overpriced Apple crap is?
And just when I thought I had all things Apple widely reported rumors started circulating yesterday that Apple will be selling actual TVs in the Fall.

I've got my cash in hand.
Every TV I've ever owned is next to SHIT.
Apple will do them right.
No more USB drive that does FUCK ALL.

the price? will. equal. FAIL.
Apple presents the TV for people with too much extra cash.
notice that in that article it talks about how Apple slashed the price of Apple TV from 299.00 to 99.00 and it still didn't do much... think about that for a second.
now ask yourself if they are still, truly, losing money at 99 bucks. i vote; no.
it's a technology that everybody already has. fucking Westinghouse and Vizio TVs can do all that shit... just not with Apple TV... why? because Apple won't let them.
in the end (at best) you'll have a Samsung, Sharp, Sony or LG TV with a large price tag, interesting menu design, a cool remote and your 99 dollar Apple TV box built in. oh, and i'm sure the back of the TV will be really awesome, but that's not the part you'll be watching.

I predict a 50" at $800.

^ *cough* bullshit!
not unless every other company (except Sony) is selling 50" at 500.
OR... it's plasma

And let's remember that the AppleTV has floundered by 'Apple's Standards', but it's still probably outsold the Xoom, Zune, and that goofy Blackberry tablet combined.

And throw in at least the Nook into that pile as well.

true that.
i just bought a Sharp LED TV the other day... that thing is awesome. it has Netflix, Cinema Now, Blockbuster Video and others i don't have setup and can't remember at this time on it...
it's 46" of wonderful and i usually don't use the words "inches" and "wonderful" in the same sentence.
maybe beats can bring over his Apple TV box while he's reconfiguring his moving forward plan and we can see if it offers anything (at all) that i don't already have in some other incarnation other than one of these:

I was too hard on other manufacturers. I bought a Samsung plasma a year ago and love the thing. Was always an LCD kinda guy, but the plasma --->
One of the features I love and use constantly on the AppleTV2 is Netflix. Ive got it on the Tivo and the Samsung, but the ATV2 interface blows them both away. The Tivo one could not possibly get any shittier.
