Can you imagine though, how different this would be as a peacefully protest?

The governments of our "free" countries wouldn't allow something as powerful to happen as it fucked the Vietnam campaign right up.
Spin, spin, spin...

:x

.....In fact they have to do very little these days to create spin as its now endemic.

Quite. Really no comparison.

Funny thing is, there's been plenty of times when the police have been way too heavy handed on legitimate political protest (with small out breaks of wrecking shit). In this case, they showed a hell of a lot of restraint when most people watching it on tv where hoping to see a bit of rough justice being administered.

Now they're being fast tracked through the courts and getting the book thrown at them. One lad got 6 months for stealing a 6 pack of water. Not sure what to think about that.

He didn't get 6 months for stealing water, he got 6 months for being a cunt, about 19 years and 6 months too little.

^ I suppose technically he was part of an massive 'organised' gang that burned and looted. The booty is not the important factor in the eyes of the law.

At least our yout's are hydrating properly. I'd hate them to get cystitis or other kind of urinary problems.

To earn respect one needs to aim higher like this erstwhile gentleman sporting some of Tesco's finest Basmati Rice.

the difference is : if people want to stage a legitimate protest they are obliged to submit a route & assumed attendance numbers to the police ahead of time ... the Police then have at least a month to get overtime for everybody, ask the regional forces who'd like a big fight, and they can all get their battle costumes on and work each other into a kill frenzy with plenty of time. Cue surprised faces on the people protesting flavoured yoghurt as they get their knees broken by a man in space armour, with no identifying insignia.

However : If you just kick off in random locations on the spur of the moment they have no clue what to do, and no manpower to do it with.

Unfortunately, when people actually have something to say, they don't tend to kick off in random locations. And if they do it in small groups, no one will give a shit. Can't help feeling this thing will be a bad thing for protest in the uk.

Sad post angstrom, but still made me laugh.

exactly.

organizing a protest is almost an oxymoron... what i mean is that the protests that have the most real impact have a tendency to be ad-lib (think of Egypt and Libya for example) because they've been brewing for so long. not that it hasn't happened before the other way (thanks for your sacrifices Dr. King and Mr. Ghandi) but it seems to be very rare or not covered as much by the media if some level of insanity does not ensue.
