I do actually prefer the black keys, mainly because I am not a great keyboard player and usually manage to create something I like on the black keys. But I think it's mainly because you're basically playing a pentatonic scale that way. So I transpose the keyboard up a semitone and it keeps it in more guitar friendly keystempus3r wrote:
As far as "fear of the black keys" goes. The white ones are just easier to hammer percussive rhythms for me. I don't use arpeggiators, i play them. Sounds like a fun idea though to see how many songs I can write that don't use any white keys. .
that's another big point though - being a guitar player tends to mean I stick for the obvious guitar keys a lot of the time, just because it sounds nicer with open strings etc. - except I do experiment with tunings and capos some times if the key is not great for vocals
