Haha

- haven't been to the lounge for a few days, so I missed this! No lie, I think it's the snowy winters that force us into basements or bars to jam, or dance and drink beer watching people jam . . . that and lots of unemployment. It's weird though - in the city you won't be taken seriously if you don't play original music (usually for no pay), but in the burbs and countryside you'd better know a bunch of hits (and you'll get paid). I've been lucky to play with some bands over the year that managed to play original music that sort of snuck around this, and got away with playing all originals in the wrong places - a rockabilly swing act that sounded just similar enough for the hicks to what they knew that it worked (and we'd keep getting hired back), and a soul folk thing that worked in a kind of Jack Johnson sort of way (mad cougar appeal). All the looping stuff I play these days seems to be in galleries in the city, for free. But it's the most fun musically I've ever had!
Fun thread. I wanna move to Stockholm, Sweden, I think. Koop!

I come from a tiny rural town called Warminster in Wiltshire UK:
We specialize in Punk and Techno:
Eat Static, Volatile Headspace, Tiny Giants, Organized Chaos, Subhumans, Culture Shock, Citizen Fish, A-Heads and a plethora of alleged famous UFO sightings in the 70's.
A young Dave Grohl lived in a punk squat with us for a few months back when Scream toured with Culture Shock in the 80s'. He even tried out for a band in neighbouring Trowbridge but was way over qualified so stayed with his band and returned to Seattle.

the best years of local bands I knew of were in Denton TX 1992-1998.
mostly unheard of's that went nowhere, but the music was fantastic and so were the chicks and drugs.
LID (or MK ULTRA)
Dooms UK
Light Bright Highway
Brutal Juice
Sub Oslo
Mission Giant
Faux Fox
Comet (Guitarist is now New Fumes, and the Drummer went on to do Secret Machines)
Thorazine Dreams
Mazinga Phazer (1 member is now known as Blixaboy)
Factory Press (whos members formed Calla, and Labradford)
Electric Freestyle Fanstasy
Ghost Car
The Riverboat Gamblers (still playing)
the Sillies
Pointy Shoe Factory (who eventually progressed to Pinkish Black)
Lift 2 Experience (now is just Josh Pearson somewhere in the UK I think)
There was also an incredible Hip Hop scene
DJ Sober
DJ Nature
Will Boston aka Prince William
and many more.

not sure... i was in Dallas in 94. a couple of my hommies from the Valley had moved up there ahead of me. Flop was one of the bands that they introduced me to (musically not in person), but the album was hard to find. i'm not sure if they are from the Dallas/Temple [big ole] area or if they were Okies.. but they were from close by. i was hoping you might know of them and be able to point me in the direction of a recording... my bros were chilling with some LSD chicks... (Little Sisters of Delta) in Temple... so all kinds of fun stuff was coming at me when i arrived.

good times.
edit: ah snap! this internet shit is so cool... i wish i would have had it a decade or two ago...
BLAM -
