I feel like a Samsung rep standing outside an Apple store on a major release day. There's just no talking about the song on it's own merits because the man is so shiny and adorable and his promotion video hit all the right spots.

In less than 2 years time (probably 1 year) it will be reduced to fodder for the wedding reception and corporate party circuit.

I feel like I could go on but I think I've illustrated the fallacy of your comparison. All of these guys came before Vanilla Ice.

Poor comparisons aside, I do actually like some K-Pop. Not that I know muchof anything about the genre but I used to work with a guy who listened to it sometimes, groups like Big Bang and T.O.P., and I did like it (in a guilty, twisted sort of way).
The analysis earlier in this thread about the songs satirical nature is true (based on PSY's interviews), and I see no compelling reason why one shouldn't believe it.

You didn’t falsify my comparison. You validated it. Saying Gangnam Style is a good representation and intro to K-pop would be like saying the same about Ice Ice Baby. Psy didn’t invented K-pop with this track but it’s the song bringing K-pop to the world stage. I checked out some more K-Pop and there’s far better tracks than Gangnam Style.

In that Ryan Seacrest video psy says he's an old head in Korea, and it was his job to play a role in guiding the younger artists who made it overseas. From what I understand he's been in the scene for a long time, and this video making it through to America is a big break for him.
Its also not a clear representation of his music, since this song has a good bit of humor in it.

Well I hope this grows some legs for his career beyond this song. I just doubt the average listener is doing as much research and discussion as we are here in this thread.

As nice and humble as he is now I can see him in a few years playing state fairs and going “If I have to play the extended remix of Gangnam Style one more time I’m going to throw myself off a cliff. FUCK!!!” backstage.
