I can see where Push might be handy for someone that does not play keys. But that is not me. The APC40 plus a keyboard works very well when I want to create. So far what I have seen about push does not make me want to give up that combination.

To me the real match is this one : APC40 NativeKontrol/ Bome-enhanced vs. PUSH

The APC 40 with factory/ default setting is just for DJ'ing then a little too restricted in my view.

I bought an APC40 in February and was disappointed by the fact that it didn't offer enough production control options like the launchPad and now Push, especially for playlist drum racks . Like many i looked into Maschine but could not face having 2 controllers - So i turned NativeKontrol to enhance it - this relies on Bome Midi software -

http://www.nativekontrol.com/MapEase_Series.html

For those who know it, They have different packages and for an additional 70 USD it becomes sort of a pre-Push controller

They have done an AMAZING job mapping deeper production controls like a drumpad for drum racks, a step sequencer with additional commands for changing velocity (note : 3 different fixed velocities..) ...keyboard...so really my APC 40 is very close to Push except that the pads are note velocity sensitive so it is less 'playable'

Having said that Push looks amazing and slick, but yeah no faders, but there s probably a way around that ? must be a way that's not clear yet to mix in the same way ? Agree with other comments : it looks def. like a Maschine killer cause a lot of NI users use ableton but always hesitate between Maschine and APCs 40 or 20 - now with Live 9 Push is a no brainer if you want a Maschine-style controller.

APC 40 is still different - so Ableton, show us a bit more what this could mean for DJ'ing + mixing and maybe i ll be tempted

Cheerio 8)

nativeKONTROL most likely plans to do a script for Push, and IF he does then I WILL buy Push... If he doesn't then I will probably pass. The nK script for apc40 v3 gives me everything that I want except for the things that are not possible with apc40 like led read-out, touch strip and velocity/after touch. But the nK apc40 v3 script goes beyond what Push vids have shown so far.

For me, I like faders... I mix my songs down to a maximum of 8 tracks by using groups for final mix. I like just closing my eyes and feeling my faders. During tracking, the nK script allows me to use the encoders with the ring leds to do my overall mix of ALL tracks without losing fader position. and when using devices, I like the led rings of the apc40 (of course this only works for devices I am familiar with because of it not having led read-out). I love having the pop-up navigator mode that has all the real functional keys like 'shift', 'ctrl', 'alt', arrows, 'delete', duplicate...etc, all as a quick pop-up

The nK apc40 v3 script is just all around great, and I only briefly mentioned some features of 2 modes... it has like 12 different modes!!!!!

Push has pressure sensitive pads, but the APC40 has faders. It all depends on how you perform. Though, just for production, push is better in my opinion

Push is not a Maschine killer at all, especially when it comes to chopping samples with a mouseless hands-on workflow, which is why so many Live users now use Maschine. Push doesn't even compare to Maschine in that department at all because you can't slice from the Push controller, you can't see waveforms or slices on the Push's LCD, you can't duplicate pads from the Push controller...etc. Not to mention that Push also doesn't even automap to plugins and can't do step automation (Elektron-style step parameter locks), and would still force you to click around with a mouse for a lot of little things, making it even less appealing in comparison, especially at the ridiculous price point. Maschine is still way more of an actual hands-on instrument than Live + Push.

Link to your extensive review of 'production' with the device in question please?

I think you mean 'looks like it could be better'. Rather than 'is'.

(If you are one of the lucky few to have been party to it's development, I apologise...)

APC40 seems better for DJing. The faders make it excellent for mixing on the fly, and the layout makes it also good for banging out arrangements after you have created you basic sounds for your songs. Push seems to be better for clip creation and writing songs. However, Push can also do what the APC does for arranging as well. I will probably sell my APC40 because I need a writing controller more. But, I am not selling the APC before I use both and compare!

As for the Maschine/Push debate. Well, Maschine still does not have multicore support and although the workflow seems great unless your chopping samples on the fly I think Push looks like the winner.

But until we have a Push we are just having fun speculating.

The arrow up / down buttons just below the "SEND A" button will allow you to shift the clips up and down.

Hi Funken,
Not sure if I understand completely what you would like to do, but if you have a column of more than 5 clips the arrow up down will make the extra clips visible, then clips that aren't playing will be orange...so you could select one of those?

I can get them to move the bank, but I wanted to select a clip that wasn't playing, is that possible?
You have m4l right? My Isotonik lite device allows this....
