I love me some Ableton...
Re: Price Changed in "Live 8 Upgrade + Free Live 9"?
@ellfa1 - I'm curious as to the pre-order price you were quoted. Also I would hope any retailer worth their salt would honour a quoted price once money had been put down on it (if you placed a deposit?)
I have read of forum members in the States pre-ordering for about $510 US from Musicians Friend whilst they have a 15% off deal going. Ableton themselves have it listed as $599 US with Live Lite although I cannot get that upgrade option whilst logged in to my account, for some reason the hardware alone was 'not available' to me, but the upgrade to Live 9 Standard or Suite with the hardware is - even though I own Live 8 Suite with automatic upgrade to 9 when it comes out, so why I would want that 'upgrade path' is a mystery to me as I don't need it!
I am awaiting a reply from Ableton Support on that one, I'm not even sure if ordering hardware from Ableton direct is an option for me at all in Australia.
I recently asked one of my favourite Music stores in Melbourne (Awave, really great guys) why Push is available for pre-order for $699 Australian when it seems to be $100 less (or even cheaper as in the 'Musicians Friend' example) everywhere else in the world. They promptly replied that it was down to the one distributor of Ableton products in Australia who control all release & pricing schedules for Ableton as well as quite a few other companies products.
This company - CMI appear to take their monopoly as a license to treat their Australian customers as suckers and idiots who can't actually compare international prices online themselves. Our dollar is above $US parity and has been for quite a while. I know shipping overheads play some part but surely not $100 for each individual unit? A good example of why no one distributor should have a complete monopoly on a line in any given country.

Re: Price Changed in "Live 8 Upgrade + Free Live 9"?
@artpunk my earlier post wasn't right which is why I changed it. The store I work with frequently quoted me the wrong pricing. They told me that I would have to pay the full 9 suite + push price to get the product. I ended up talking to the general manager of the store. He told me to check the ableton site as they sent me a screen shot of the price increase. However, they weren't logged in so they saw new user prices. I logged in and explained the difference. Then I changed my post, as that was the price I was expecting to pay so this is a non-issue. I set the shop straight... I own live 8 suite so getting 9 + push should be $848. If the store won't honor this price, I'll buy from the other shop which I think will. Lesson learned. I just hope that they aren't getting pricing that may be coming soon... They also told me the general release is April to which I tweeted ableton. Apparently ableton was at this retailer and said that it would be released in q1 but not readily available until April. Sorry to cause confusion,
